Title: TURBO CARNAGE or If it werent for bad luck, I wouldnt have any luck at all.

Driving down the road this afternoon, and the stocker grenaded. Covered four lanes in soot, but I got it to the side and called a buddy. We got the thing over to his place and tore into it. Compressor wheel is completely shredded. Found chunks of fins in the cold pipe, but not near what came off.

On a happier note the S400 still looks like new. Zero damage. Small favors eh?

Im supposed to be hauling a 5th wheel to New Mexico tomorrow night. Obviously thats not going to happen. Apparently the latest I can be there is Tuesday. So on to the questions.

There is a Cummins shop in Little Rock, would that be the best spot to get a new Holset? What model number was the turbo that came with 04.5-07 (I believe) trucks? Anyone know of a better place to get one? Its going to have to be in Arkansas, but I'd assume that if I am going to find one, itll be in Little Rock. Any suggestions?

One more thing, what is the best way to get that metal out of the intercooler? Hope this ordeal didnt damage my motor.

Thanks for reading.

Didn't get any pictures, but I can get some in the morning, np.

Thanks for the model number, PourinDiesel. Any ideas on how much a new one is going to set me back?

What could have caused this? The turbo had 113k miles of use and I've only been using it in the twin setup for a few weeks. 300 miles or so on it, and I've taken it pretty easy breaking them in. This sucks.

Cummins needs an engine serial number off an 05-07 to look up the part. Can anyone lend a hand? Said it was an eight digit number off the engine data plate. Thanks in advance.

Looks like I've got it taken care of. Found one as close to new as I could hope for (2k miles on it) and it set me back 340 bucks. 230 for overnight shipping and I should be good to go tomorrow in the a.m.

Drain your oil. My dad blew one up on his '06 and two weeks later it had a rod knocking. Drain your oil and look very carefully for anything - maybe even have it analyzed. If there's anything in it you might want to pull the pan and/or try to flush a bunch of oil through the engine.

Yep...

Read my past posts. Make sure you have oil pressure on start up. The oil filter will pick up what makes it up the from the pan...but the oil pump and regulator valve in the cooler/filter assembly may be trashed. The oil drains are so large...chunks of bearing etc make it into the pan. The oil pick up in the pan only keeps out the really BIG stuff.

My bet is that big s400 on the bottom abused the stocker until she gave up the ghost. Who did that at the TS Perf bash last year or the year before? RC *** maybe. Anyways, the pump sucked up chunks of turbo and sent it through the motor destroying it(or so I'm told).

The little stockers are very quick to spool in that type setup, but they're really not able to handle alot of HEAVY abuse whether intentional or not. Of course, when I had my stocker, I pounded on it really hard up to 45 lbs or so. First time with the MP8, she hit over 55 lbs. Thought I'd have a heart attack right there.
