I took off my cat now and added a resonator and the truck just sounds AWESOME. No I'm not real conservative The low end growl makes the hair on my neck stand on end.
your truck is more retarded than ours, we did throw the out of sync codes so we had to back it off some. and the TST which also does more timing.

"I'd guess that I have about 5-6 degrees advance"

I think you mean that you have 5-6 degrees of advance IN ADDITION to the advance that he ECM gives it. Don't confuse the 3rd gen timing with prior engines.

I think some of you guys have taken it too far.

I may be more retarded, but I don't know about my truck . I agree that you have to be careful, so far I haven't seen or heard anything that makes me feel I'm causing any engine issues at all. The only thing I'm worried about is trans problems developing with my Quad box. After I lost the cat and advanced the tone ring, even with the Quad box off, The truck runs so much better than stock. I have a very expereinced ear when it comes to hearing problems in a vehicle and , knock on wood, no problems with my truck so far. I think all trucks are different and whats good for mine may not be good for others but we'll see what happens. If you play you pay, so I'm ready if anything happens.

1 degree advance = about.070" of ring movement. I advanced mine about 2.5 degrees. Mpg picked up by .5 and I got a little rattle on take-off. I'm going to back it off about 1 degree and see what happens. I don't think the rattle can be a good thing - I'm thinking like preignition with a gasser with too much timing, IMO. Craig

Most of the "rattle" goes away after returning the TR to the stock setting.

Does the "rattle" cause any damage to the engine? I don't mind the sound, at all, but, would it be better for the engine to back-off the TR?

Thanks for your help & advise.

If you have audible knock and rattle, your SOI is too far advanced. Adding a pressure box only adds to the problem of rattle, depending on how much the IP is raised at low engine speeds. Increased IP at slow speeds directly relates to how well mixed the fuel and air and how much fuel is injected. The time the injector is open to discharge fuel stays constant. But the pressure does not.

Reduce the SOI and the low speed pressure to control the rattle. The low speed enhanced pressure is also raising the CP past an acceptable level.

If the CP is high enough to hear VS a stock setting you are way over what I call an acceptable level of CP for long term engine use. We can raise the CP over 20 bar and not hear anything. If you hear a rattle, the CP is higher than 20 bar over stock. Mechanical stress is higher.

Mine was at 2.17. I slowed it down to 1.5 and no more rattle. Craig

The idle rattle seems to be a problem with the 03 - 04.5 engines. I have an 05 and moved the ring as far as the bolts would go, and don't really notice a rattle at idle. The Juice doesn't add any "power" until the engine is warmed up, so I don't really worry about it.

It isn't power that causes the issue it is the timing. Just clarifying.

Exclamation Stock Again

I put my Tone Ring back to the stock position and no more rattle. I like it better that way. I think our 03's HO dont do well with the mod.

I know that. I'm just saying the Juice doesn't add any additional timing/pressure or whatever until the engine reaches at least 140°, so while from a cold start the Juice doesn't come into play at all.
