Question Is there a 2 low kit for the 3rd gen trucks?

Hello
I have a 2 low kit on my 01 truck (6 speed) and use it all the time when backing up.

Does anyone have a 2 low kit for the 3rd gen trucks??

We also have a 2004 with the auto trans. I am looking for the 2 low kit for when backing up the 5er or loaded goose neck to keep the temps down in the trans. This truck transmission sure gets hot when jockeying the trailer in reverse.

Thank you
See Ya
Chris

Remove the front driveshaft?

I dont believe there is a 2lo kit for the 3rd gens since there isnt a CAD disconnect on the front axle.

There was another thread on electronic lockers for 3rd Gens. Apparently you can get a Eaton locker for the front.

2nd generations have a vacuum motor to engage the front axle. You could control that separately from the transfer case (using an aftermarket kit) and keep the front axle disengaged.

3rd generations have the front axle engaged all the time. There may be manually operated hubs available by now. That's the only way I can think of to get 2-wheel low but it isn't very convenient if you are used to having 4wd available without getting out of your truck and turning the hubs. They might increase your mpgs and reduce wear on the front drivetrain, though.

terra flex, make a 2-low for the jeep 231 x-case. It is a kit that replaces the shift fork and guide plate inside the x-case but it really isn't that hard to do if you are mechanically inclined. They only charge about $150.00 for this kit. I know the dodge case isn't a 231 but I bet money that the inners are set up the exact same way (just alot beefier), so it shouldn't be hard for someone to come out with a kit (if there was enough demand for it), the only set back would be for the guys with dial shift since it wouldn't recognize the extra setting.

On the jeep it goes from
2H-4H-N-4L

to
2H-4H-N-4L-2L

It works great and is a REAL 2 low set up...
