testing problems??boost,coolant fuel
whats the easiest way to check the system for boost leaks?i would like to check the whole thing, boots and all if i can,i also want to check my fuel pres and coolant temp, has anyone checked these things manually, any tips to help?thanx
Do a search for PVC boost leak tester. You can make a tester with some pvc pipe and an air compresor ( regulated of course!) Coolant temp can be checked easiest with an infared temp gun or a thermometer taped to the upper hose or thermostat housing. You'll need a fitting to tap into the fuel system ( prefferably at the CP3 ) . You can tap your factory bolt if you have a drill and a tap, and then just put a guage there, or run a hose to the cab with an isolater before the guage. ( or without an isolator if you don't mind the chance of a fuel leak in the cab)
Here's a pic of the boost leak tester I made from simple parts. It clamps on the turbo inlet and pressurizes the system to whatever I set it to. (about 25 psi.) It's one of my favourite diagnostic tools.
