TCS Torque Converters and Tow Haul....
TCS Torque Converters and Tow Haul....
Hey guys,
I am thinking the stock converter pisses me off. The way I see it is, when at WOT and watching the RPMS climb, the truck feels like it stops for a bit, then shifts, then goes again. Everyone seems to think its the stock converter slipping too much before the shifts, or that torque managment. But there are so many guys running fast 1/4 mile times, there has to be a way around this... The problem is less so in Tow/Haul, but truck still feels slow on the shifts.
I am thinking of getting a TCS converter (because its a local company for me) and the edge juice w/attitude to "correct" this problem. The truck feels SLOW comapred to the Dmaxes and Pooperjokes I have driven, and its mostly 'cause if this delay/lag/whatever it is when it wants to shift.
I was under the impression that in tow/haul, the converter is locked up 100% and there is no slip. So how is this different from an aftermarket converter?
Am I on the right track? DO I need any other tranny mods?
Thanks guys.

With the stock power I dont think you would be happy adding a tight converter.
However with the added power of the Edge it would be a different story. I would look at some valve body mods to go with a new converter also. I have run TCS converters for many years including the one in my truck now (almost 2 years old now ) and never had any problems.

What VB mods do you recommend?
Thanks,
Igor.
I wish I could answer that, but Im not much of a tranny guy (the local shop has always done me good) I know for the extra holding power you need to increase line pressure and a good shift kit to firm up the shifts. I also know that the guys that do this for a living know of many little tricks that all add up to a good working tranny that can take abuse a BOMBed diesel can put out. One thing you might look at having a converter made that has better holding but not lowering the stall. Those gears/tires and a 1500 stall and your going to need 500HP to get around.
