For $300 the Predator is a whole lot of fun too... Just a thought.

I have been beta testing the V4.4. I ran almost 1500 miles last week and had to fill up 4 times. My miles were probably under the worst conditions, so I don't think my mileage was "bad". My truck is a DRW and usually loaded under the cap. There was probably 800lbs in the bed last week. I was running 72-74 mph on the highways into headwinds and up and down hills for almost every single mile I drove. The day I turned north to come home the wind switched and was out of the north. Of the 1500 miles, 500-600 were city miles. Really, the only problem I have is that the overhead is way more optimistic now than it was before. Here are my hand calced figures:

Fillup #1 23.61 gallons 373.1 miles 15.80 mpg

Fillup #2 28.76 gallons 399.7 miles 13.89mpg

Fillup #3 31.00 gallons 433.2 miles 13.97mpg

Fillup #4 14.57 gallons 221.6 miles 15.21mpg

My overhead read 20.4mpg after the trip was completed.

I would say that if I had an SRW SB and could drive 60mph, it wouldn't be hard to hit 18-20mpg's.

After all that, I still like this V4.4 software. The truck is more lively, the transmission shifts with authority, and when I need the power for passes and Interstate on ramps, it is there...no problem.

I say get the Smarty! I really did not see a mileage increase last week, but under the conditions that I was driving, I should have seen a decrease in mileage and I didn't.

You get what you pay for with the diablo too. update smarty via simple usb cable

update a diablo, better head to radio shack

These cables are not generally included.
What you need are:

1: Serial Cable:
Standard straight-through DB9 (9-pin to 9-pin) RS232C serial cable (6 foot cable is more than enough). Check your computer to see if you have a male or a female port on the back, as some are different. You will need a male end to go into your Predator.
(Radio Shack Part # 26-117, 6-ft DB9 male to DB9 female shielded cable.)

2: Power Adapter:
CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER
OUTPUT : 12VDC 1000mA (1 Amp)(Radio Shack Part # 273-1776)
Note: Plug Tip is 2.5mm x 5.5mm, female, and center is positive.(Radio Shack Part # 273-1717)

The part numbers listed are from Radio Shack.

Thanks

This is circa 1990 technology.

Take a look at the performance and software choices.

Naah -- The cable and power supply issue is just no big deal and is overstated. Once you buy them for $30.00, the updates from the computer to the unit itself take no time even via RS232 serial. Again, the cables & power adapter cost well under $30.00.

The big issue is the number of different tunes "out of the box" (Smarty has way more) and the ability to calibrate the speedo on 2003 - 2005 trucks (Smarty, yes, Predator, No, though you can on 2006 - 2007 models). I bought the predator because I couldn't justify the more than double price of the Smarty. Also, the good folks at DiabloSport will make a custom tune and email it to you -- for free.... Hello? All for $300.00.

Nope!!! They offer a 30 day trial period where you can return the item for a full refund!

Again, the price difference is unjusified, IMHO.

I got to ride in Luvnacumns truck yesterday and he's got the Smarty on his. Regardless of cost difference I'm getting the Smarty. With Smarty and the Mp-8 it's enough to spin that A5K and make it stupid fast. I trie to give a little playfull race in my (stock) truck. I didn't have a chance.
