Trik that is the problem,, even just a little bit of pressure relief is bad. The head will act like a spring. But like you said, I like to play on the safe side,, better safe than sorry,, and I also got to see how everything looked in there, see how the valves looked etc.

Kevin I agree and I'd like to see the inside but right now I can't even find the time to stud it let alone pull the head... Maybe someday... I'd love to get a Helix cam, springs and cleanup the bowls on the head...

I'm going without studs in my 06 2500.. My quickest time to date is 12.21 on diesel only, though this is with just a PS62-14 and approximately 45 pounds of boost.. I know at that level, it shouldn't need anything. My truck is down right now getting a single 74, a different valvebody, and much larger injectors.. If you look at the fastest pro street trucks, they run stock head bolts.. Morrison, Garmon, Prince, even Keating's truck is running stock head bolts. My pro street truck with a fire ringed head and ARP studs blew the head gasket first time out.. Now, with head bolts it's been pounded at 90 plus pounds of boost with no head gasket failure.. It's currently in the 850's on diesel only.. There is just a certain way you have to torque it down to avoid breaking the headbolts. I'm no expert.. I don't know of guys going this route with 3rd gen's. I don't mind trying it and seeing what happens.. Garmon told me it would work just as well for the third gen, so I'm pretty comfortable with it..

So what's the secret to torquing the bolts???

I though this was gone over on another site and the secret to the bolts holding was they were running ONLY 10 to 1 compression...

No, that's not true at all.. That's just what someone suggested because Jeff made a post that he now has 10 to 1 compression pistons for sale.

Boost / Studs

Is Studs really needed if one does not exceed 50psi Boost on a Silver 62-14 Turbo. It is currently still set at Factory Setting, What could I safely Bump it up to , I believe factory is 40-LBS ? This is regarding a 2005 3-rd Gen Truck,
I know with the 2-nd gen I had it was more critical to stud it at lower boost settings. Not sure what the actual increase of Boost amount or strenth is from 2-nd Gen---to 3-rd in the engine head?

Regards, Wes
