street racing

I know I know but every once and a while you just have to show some punk that a little rice burner isn't fast and I get a laugh when the get to the next light and won't even look over to acknowledge that they just been smoked by rattlin truck.
Any who my question is for you more experienced racers whats the best way to lanch the truck?? I normally hold the brake down load the drive train then see ya ,but I've heard some guys launch in 4x4 but is that more drag on the truck would be slower ?

it's not street racing, it's just getting up to speed quickly, and if you can smoke
'em in the process, that makes it fun

Yea, just stall it up with your foot on the brake and when the light turns green..let them have it. Mine was a 5spd, so I did most of my playing from a roll..those ricers HATED being beaten by a big 'ol 8K lb. dually with 9" lift and 35's

I don't condone "street racing". Drag racing is meant for the strip.PERIOD

And alot of what goes on in my city is plain stupid driving and not "racing" at all.

Now, that being said, I think it's ok to blow some punk with a chainsaw engine off the line. What I mean is, thru the intersection and that's it. If traffic is clear, street is wide, I think the main risk you take is getting a ticket. Anything past the intersection and it's a different story. I'm all about 60' times.

Ok, I cant keep from posting.

I agree that "street racing" is childish, dangerous and illegal. Now I try to do all of my real racing on sanctioned NHRA tracks. Much safer that way.

That said I resent that over 60 remark . I was drag strip racing in the 60s and since I am now in my 3rd midlife crisis mode I am doing it again. The challenge now is to make a 7500lbs monster as fast as the big block muscle cars of the past.

On the street I normally drive my age and get passed frequently on my way to work on the stock car track they call the Sam Houston Tollway in Houston.

On occasion at a light a ricer pulls up on the right side(Cant see 'em, but I can hear 'em) thinking they are going to blast by in front of the big old truck with with the old fart driving. I turn up the Hot Juice to Level 5/5, EZ to Level 2, slowly bring up the rpms. When the light changes I do my best launch with foot on the floor long enough to see the scene in the rear view mirror. Small vehicle emerging from a large cloud of black smoke , driver always has weird look on his face.

I think everybody that drives in Houston has a racing complex. I try to ignore all the dangerous situations.

My 1/4 mile times are much slower in two wheel drive, mainly because the tires spin off the line and at 2nd and 3rd gear shifts. 4X4 HI launches just plain rock!! All 4 tires spin for a split second. You will definitely get much better 60ft times.

2wd with a little turbo lag is necessary for enough black smoke and spinning 315s to make the correct impression

greyrig05

If the space is there I have been known to play, especially if its a furd.

But it is really more fun to have a new Transam, that had the hood up with ice cooling that high tech intake, at the track stage next to you and then just leave him at the line and get far enough ahead to see him in the rear view mirror

Only been once with the new TC/Trans upgrades. I was doing too much screwing around with high boost 4wd launches to really get it right. Weather was terrible, had a full tank and tools in the back. Driver was the primary excuse. The best was a 14.6 1/4. I have since learned how to get a much better launch. I am also going to stack an EZ tomorrow and use the 180hp setting next time. I seem to be able to keep the EGTs down enough on 180hp for a 1/4 run. I expect to be in low 14s this time. Best 60' was 2.000. I think I can do a little better than that now.

I am aiming for low 13s, maybe 13.2. I have a lot to do to get there. Money is the main problem. Still need FASS, twins, studs, injectors and 5" straight pipe.
