Strange Problem

Recently when I shut my truck off and take the key out of the ignition, I can open the door and the door dinger thingy still dings. The most recent thing I can think of is that I had a cd player and satelite radio put in the other day and befor that was the Smarty.

Until recently I just always pulled the key out of the ignition a little and there was no ding, then this started all of the sudden. Also, when I shut the door it quits if that matters.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You might try lubeing the ignition switch with a shot of WD-40 or such. It may not work, but it's cheap and easy to try that first.

The dinger will ding if the lights are on as well. Even if the dome light switch is on. I know, kinda silly, but I looked for half an hour one night, and I think I used a half a bottle of WD!

Will, go out and check to see if your headlights have been on this whole time!?!?!

J/K man. I have no idea what could cause that. Maybe a goofy connection inside the ign switch? The Smarty thing sounds conceivable, but mine doesn't do that with the latest version.

I'm not sure if this is the solution to your problem, but it might be more of a start. On my truck, I was installing a CB. For power, I tapped into the cigarette lighter next to the gearshift lever because it is controlled by the ignition. Once I did that, some wierd things started happening like you are describing. I took my tap off and wired it into the cigarette lighter that is on constantly and have never had another problem.

Actually the TIPM ( body computer ) will shut the lights off, but the dinger will still ding. It was just an idea.

Yeah, I was surprised the first time the headlights turned off automatically when I intentionally left them on.

The interior light being left on is probably the best idea posted in this thread so far. I could easily see myself doing that while programming the ECM at night, and then going nuts for weeks/months/years afterwards trying to figure it out!

The smarty idea sounds viable but I dont think it is as I have been runnin the same 3 betas since I have had my smarty and this just started a couple of weeks ago.

The sat radio/cd player idea sounds like a good one, I may have to check that out.

About the dome light, that is only if I turn it on right? I mean if I have the dial set so the light comes on when the door opens, that wont do it, will it?

And no, my head lights are not on but that would cause the problem never the less and I do appreciate the advice.

Clock spring? Is that like blinker fluid?

The clock spring is in the column. It's what allows you to turn the wheel and still have electronic controls on it.

If it happened right after the cd player install I would try changing the power and ground connections for those.

I bet the power was taken off the wrong wire...

Does the CD player turn off with the key?
