stock psi on he341

I've just installed a psi guage I bought at the local hardware store with a boost bolt to see my psi. Since I went cheap, I want to see how far the guage may be off. What PSI should I be seeing. Please give me a reference point like at mph or at rpm.

thanks!

WOT with the stock engine is around 24psi.

There's to many variables to give an accurate boost number at a given MPH or RPM.

WOT above 2500 rpms will give you the most boost, about 22-24 IIRC.

sounds like what I'm seeing then, thanks guys. needed this so I can start a few small wg mods, but not too much as the stock tranny is still in There are still so many $300-500 mods I'm looking to do, but being held back by the tranny.

brings me to another question.. what do you guys think about some of the tranny rebuild kits instead of a prebuilt? And has anyone installed it them selves? I've done some manual transmission work, but not auto

Boost doesn't make power, fuel does. So I would say get a boost elbow and help that BD run cooler.

You should see well over 30, possibly even into the 40s if you are running that Bully Dog.

wow, really? the boost gauge shows around 25 when I stomp on it. I've got instructions from a guy in here on how to drill out the solenoid and put a bolt to make it adjustable, then I'm thinking of a boost fooler. Do those sound like they will get me to the 30s. I'm looking for low 30s as I don't want to take too much of a chance blowing the turbo. I want to upgrade it, but not yet.. have a 5 week old at home, so have to be 'responsible' lol

you have a 351 not a 341 like the original poster.

ziggy- if your truck is an early 04 (305 HP) you have a mechanical wastegate that will open at 22-24 psi in stock form. There is no solenoid on your truck to regulate boost. A boost elbow can replace the fitting on your turbo to adjust(or in this case restrict) pressure to waste gate. By restricting pressure to waste gate diaphram, it will open later, giving you more boost. Keep in mind beyond 30-32 psi your 341 is pushing super heated air, and you'll end up doing more harm than good in the long run. The electronic boost fooler does the same thing on trucks with electronic waste gate.(04.5-07). The electronic fooler on your truck will only keep you from getting an overboost code that you probably wont get anyway with the bullydog on there.

The BD should boost fool, at least I am 90% sure it does.

I agree that 30-34 is all you want to see out of the HE341.

Do a ebay search for 'adjustable boost elbow'. Around $12-20.

I've made 3 just this way. Even if you have to buy the tap it costs less than $8 total.
