Starting Issue

A number of weeks ago, I changed my fuel filter and ever since, the truck had issues starting when warm. After a drive of more than 10 minutes, I couldn’t start it at all unless I used some starting fluid. Once started, it ran fine. I figured I must be getting air in the system so I double checked the filter install and put on a new o-ring on the filter housing, but to no avail.

It gradually began to get worse to the point that it was even giving me problems cold.

I finally brought it in for service and the injectors and pump are passing all the tests but the pressure at start-up is only 1700 psi rather than the 5200 or so that it is supposed to be. They tell me that they can only test the injectors one at a time for leaks by capping one at a time. Hence, there could be two that are leaking and they would not be able to find it via this method.

They are doing some more testing but at this time they still believe that it is either the pump or the injectors but I’m not convinced. Any ideas?

Additionally, if it turns out that I have to replace the injectors, I don’t know which ones to go with. I don’t think I should go with stock but I really need some advice in this area.

Thanks for any and all help. Truck currently has 175K miles.

Did they run an injector return flow test and it passed?

How about a cylinder contribution test?

Do you have any other symptoms like excessive smoke driving, bad mpg, fuel in oil?

Since the symptoms started happening when it was only warm then progressed, have them re-torque all the injector cross over tubes and make sure the tube end into the injector is not scarred or otherwise compromised.

I’m not sure what tests they ran. They just told me that it passed all the recommended Chrysler tests. No other symptoms. Engine ran great with normal performance and fuel economy once running.
