stacks vs stright pipe

Well i have stacks now and im thinking about the switch back, i went from stock to stacks so i have no clue what the stock stright pipe is like. I want loud, but i want to be able to talk to the people in the back seat (can only talk about them now) and im getting a little tired of having to wash everything i tow let alone the truck.

Problem is i love the way it sound now with the windows down...

what did you notice when u changed? Thanks

I straight piped my '06. It is loud with a slight drone on acceleration, but I love the sound and it's not too loud when the windows are up. Plus, the cat and muffler delete pipes from MBRP were cheap.

Str8 piped mine.

Bought delete pipe for muff and had PETERBUILT cut me straight piece for kitty. Low drone and at cruising speed, not to bad. She sure wakes up when you hammer the skinny though

i have run stock, strait pipe 3 inch, no exhaust down pipe only(sounds like crap) then 5 inch mbrp with muffler then with no muffler now open single stack cut flat and out of all of them the stack is my favorite and the only one that doesnt cause drone at 45mph and up. i do want to run a muffler after the down pipe and another one somewhere else. i know a guy with 1000 on a vp44 and he has 2 huge mufflers on his truck and all you can hear is the motor and turbo. i have a video of it on you tube, it sounds so good. go to youtube and look up username powermad2001 thats me and the silver 01 on the dyno is the truck im talking about. check it out

Have a straight pipe on my 06 and not nearly as much noise in the cab as i thought there would be you can have a conversation with out any problems with windows up and prob about just as loud as every one i know with stacks just not in cab if you still have your stock exhuast its easy to do too all i did was get a stick of 4" pipe cut right after the down pipe at the tail pipe and weld it in with no bends and welded hangers on

If your on the highway a lot I think you'd get sick of straight pipe. I've had it for about a year, it is great in the city but I am so sick of hearing the exhaust on the highway. Never been in a truck with stacks but i'd say straight pipe is probably a lot quieter.

it also depends on were your stack is. mind is cut about 4 inches below the cab and flat cut. i have heard the stacks that are about 5 inches above the cab are quieter. no personal experience though

Yes I know where you guys are coming from straight pipe noise and drone.I almost throw may stacks away because the drone and noise was just nuts...And also being a regular it was even worse...I gave it one more chance and installed a 30 inch muffler and that knocked out aleast 75% of the noise. Now its alot better...Go with a muffler and you will be happy.Just remember not to install the muffler backwards like I did.The rised internal tabs inside the muffler go against the flow of the exhaust. If the tabs are with the flow, the muffler will act as a straight through pipe.Hope this helps..

I had mine straight piped for 2 years and I finally got sick of the ricer 3rd gen sound, put on a straight through muffler and its much better now.
