Exclamation SPS 66 or Twins??

I have ordered almost everything but have been a little hesitant to order the ATS Twin Turbo setup. What are some of the differences and advantages/disadvantages I am likely to run into between the two setups. I have searched the threads but can find very little on the SPS 66 so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know that a good compound twin setup will spool faster than most singles but since I have a 6-speed I wasn't sure how important this would be. Also, I have calculated that my 22.5" wheels with 255/70 Sumitomo traction tires will reduce my gearing to a sweet 3.19! (meaning that I will be able to run at 75mph with 65mph RPMS! Given this, which turbo setup should I be looking at ?

Tough call. I have quite a bit of seat time behind both turbos, but with automatics. I went with the ATS twins and a buddy went with the SPS66. Both setups run very well and seem to be neck and neck when racing. Here are some of the differences.

SPS66 will surge sometimes on shifts, twins will not.
SPS spools fast, twins spool faster.
SPS runs cooler egt's than the twins on the street. We have not towed with the SPS yet, but the twins ran pretty cool with a 12k load.

I know the SPS66 is capable of 800+. We have not pushed the twins that hard yet, but will very soon. I dont think you can make a wrong decision here.

Go with the SPS66, and spend the rest of your money on a modified CP3 and some good injectors.

You can make up for some of the slower spooling with a bit of pressure or a downloader.

Besides, isn't it going to be fun spanking guys with twins with a little single?

Now you've gone and done it. I had my mind set on a 62/14 but now the 66 spools fast?

Are you going to be doing any towing or is this thing going to be a street machine only?

If you are going to run larger tires and overall a lower gearing... go with the twins.

I'm running 40" tires on 4.10's. The SPS66 would bark ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME!!! AND SURGE LIKE NOBODYS BUSINESS!!!!

Twins are cooling alot better, no bark, no surge and drivability is 10x better!!!!

I have the new 66 on my truck so far it has been very nice. At 65 to 70 mph I run at 0 boost but it is very quick to spool. Last weekend I climbed some fairly steep hills at 70 mph I ran at almost 1200 degrees at 85 mph I ran at 1050 degrees, now I still have my stock exshaust on so that is a little inaccurate but still not bad. When that thing does spool though it is out of hand. As for the 22.5 inch rims I was also going to get those but did a little research, you can run a comercial tire that will last for 200,000 miles ya but those things are very heavy and will tear your stuff apart very quickly and are very tuff to get stopped, not to mention will ride like a brick Edit. Now if you go with a 19.5 then I think you will be happier. www.brentzwheels.com
Call them and talk to Brent he is very easy to talk to and will exsplain everything.
Oh ya haven't had any surging at all so far.

Twins with that low of gears....you need RPM's to make big singles drivable...and unless you are driving 90 plus you will be in big trouble with that steep of gearing.

Thanks guys. I still am not sure what I am going to do, but I will try to answer everyone's questions.

Is this truck for street or towing?
Both. I plan on doing lots of heavy towing as well as driving it daily on ther street.

What have I ordered so far?
SBC 3850 Twin Disc Clutch
AFE Stage 2 Intake
Bully Dog Stage 3 100HP Injectors
FASS 150GPH Fuel System
MBRP 5" Turbo-Back Exhaust
Edge Juice w/ Attitude
Pac Brake PRXB
Cobalt Series Gagues (0-30psi Fuel, 1600*F EGT, 0-60psi Boost)
A-Pillar Mount
Bushwacker Fender Flares
22.5" wheels with 255/70 Sumitomo Traction Tires

As for the turbos, do you think the ATS Twins would work well, or am I better off with the BD Diesel Super B Twin?

I find that usually the only people that still recommend a single are single manufacturers and people that have never owned a set of twins. Do it once and go with twins. You will not regret it.

I've been knocking on it's door for 3 years. It just won't let this 250hp SO engine in.

Thanks, I have been WANTING to do twins all along; just haven't been sure if it is the best way to go but I think I am going to just say, "Edit It" and do it!

Oh, and AK, just KICK the door down, that way 11's won't have time to check and see who is at the door !

Have you looked at any other options for twins? Maybe look for a set that uses your stock turbo and then add a large primary. "Much Cheaper" I would also reccomend that you find a local performance diesel shop that can maybe reccomend something else.

Hey I don’t think most of the guys replying are aware of your financial status. You should tell these guys money is not an issue, hell they should be able to figure that out just looking at your list and avatar.

Anyways Twins will always be better the a single. If money was no object I'd look at other vendors besides ATS for your twins. Last year the best set of twins going were the B1/B2 sold by a few like power by poole. Those twins were dishing out 600-650HP on 2nd gens. Now today I’ve fallen out of the loop but I still know B1 is good but Industrial Injection's SPS Turbos seem to be better in lots of ways. So with that in mind I'd look into going II SPS in a twins set up. Lets face it your truck deserves better then a single it is crying for the best twins you can get!!!!
