I want to get a spray in liner for my truck. Line-X wants $440. Sounds steep! Has anyone done their own paint in liner? How hard is it to do, how long does it take, how much does it cost & how good does it last?

 

I just got a Rhinoliner put in mine - it's my third Rhinoliner in a row now.... Last truck was an F250 that I had for about 7 years. Only had one bad spot in the liner due to a pallet with a nail sticking out being drug across the length of the bed - only left a scratch about 4 inches long, and the Rhinoliner guys repaired it for free...

This latest liner was $425 for over the rail...

 

Get the Line-X. I figure if you put one in yourself, you'll become unhappy down the road and eventually have to pay the Line-X guys even more to clean the old crap out before they can spray theirs in.

I had a rubber bed mat in my old Ford for 10 years. It held up to the sun and cold real well and the new owner was glad to see it also.

When it came time to think about what to use for this truck (the 1st thing I did was sell the factory plastic bed liner) I began to price the spray in liners. Wow! I couldn't believe some of the prices.

I found a good price for a 3/8's of inch thick rubber mat online for about an 85 dollar bill. My bed is protected, I am happy and will continue to stick to bed mats.

 

Rhinoline or Line-X either way it's money well spent. That price seems good, on the lower side. Helps keep the bed dent/scratch free and keeps things from sliding around.

 

I went with the line-x over the rail and also through in my mat that I got from les schwabs. The spray in liners will peel up if you accidently gouge it. But if you do they should fix for free.

 

Well I have Rhino on 2 trucks and Line-X on 1 truck (it came with it) Both are as was stated earlier money well spent. The older Line-X liners werent as thick and the ingrediants didnt make for as sticky a surface as I like why i always went with Rhino. However the Linex on my 04 seems to be thicker and stickier than their old liners thus I would go with either again. Normally do the tailgate and over the bed rails. Usually $80 bucks more to go over the rails. Used to be $380 for bed and $80 for rails for $460 total. Have done it with 11 of the 18 trucks we have owned since 1998. Have no regrets at all about them.

 

I would shop around for prices on the Line X. I just had my 2005 Long Bed done for $350 - this included front bulk head, under the rails and the tailgate. I also have a 2000 Ford Crew Cab Dually with a TOFF bed liner - still looks good after 5 years.

 

Pay the money! It took about 3-4 hours to have my over the rail line-x applied, looks fantastic. The guy that did mine had done over 400+ beds, he made it look easy (Brighton MI). I could see myself trying one of the roll on kits, I would be down at the dealer to buy a new factory bed after something went wrong. Let the pros handle this one, you will be much happier and have a real warranty. I paid around 400.00 for mine last winter, got a coupon off of the line-x site. If you are a AAA member, there might be an additional 10% off.

whatever you do stay away from the do it yourself kits! It takes at least 3 gallons minimum to attain the thickness needed for a bedliner and the cheap kits just don't cut it. I install Scorpion liners at my shop and it takes alot of prep work to do it right. There are probably at least 30 brands of spray in liners on the market with most of em real comparable as far as texture and durability. Any liner that peels wasn't prepped properly, if you gouge them they should only go as far as the gouge itself. Any of the good liners will cost 350 min. and in my opinion it's money well spent. Some liners can be custom tinted to match the color of your truck, something else you might want to consider. Alot of the brands only offer a few basic colors.

 

Don't do the do it yourself in a good truck. I did the do it yourself stuff in the floor of my old off road ramcharge because it was cheap and easy to wash out that way. But it is not really comparable to the spray in stuff.

I had Reflex brand put in mine color matched to the Red truck, it looks great. I also have a truck with Rihno it in, it is OK but gets chaulky looking after some time in the sun and weather, so I am not real impressed with it.

Actually my dad has his done at the same time too, also color matched, both have been holding up. But for real heavy duty work and protection a drop in liner is still better in my opinion.

go with either one rhino or line-x. i went with rhino because it was stickier. line-x was hard as nails it acted like sand paper. i had mine done in 2002. 480 is cheap. by the time you buy every thing and prep the bed you don't save anything. i went with over the rails and it cost me 540.00 but it's CA the land of loonies.

 

try offering the guy cash, that usally makes for a better deal. i like the line x myself. would not dream of putting on a home liner job on such a nice rig.
