Speaker Issues
Speaker Issues
To begin with, I wanted to upgrade my infinity sound system to achieve a good all around tone. I installed a Pioneer deck, 800watt Audiobahn amp, (2) 10" 400watt RMS Audiobahn Subs. This was a good upgrade but the bass seemed to drone out the highs and mids so I decided to upgrade those. I searched Crutchfield for the replacement speakers. Their website told me that 6 1/2" speakers would fit. Well they were wrong, I found a pair of 3-way 220 watt pioneer speakers for dirt cheap on EBAY (brand new), first off they were the wrong speakers. I needed 6X9's in the front doors and 5 1/4" in the rear doors. I fabricated a plate which allowed me adapt the 6 1/2"s in the front and luckily the 6 1/2"s fit in the rear door with little modification. My problem no is that when sittin gin the fron of the truck everything sounds o.k. which isn't exactly want I was looking for. But sittin gin the rear it sounds like crap. The 3-way speakers in the rear only play mids and bass which at high levels makes them create that "Punch" noise. Also, it sounds funny only having the highs playing in the dash. I was hoping that I could get a 6 1/2" component system mount the 6 1/2's in the door for the mids and bass and locate the tweeters in the rear corner of the cab for cleaner highs in the rear. Has anyone done this, or could anyone recomend a good component system for fairly cheap less than $150? Thanks
You don't want the tweeters behind you, it will screw up the soundstage. In the rear I'd mount them right in with the 6.5 behind the factory speaker grill, they'll sound good and you won't be able to see them. If the 3-way speakers you have in the rear aren't playing highs either there is a problem with the speakers, install, or setting on the radio. Being a Pioneer I'd make sure the FIE feature is off, then make sure the crossover settings are correct if the deck has them, also make sure the deck isn't set up to run a sub...Pioneer does crazy stuff like that. You should be able to change or check all the settings right through the radio.
