SPA Gauge Install Questions

I just bought a set of the dual SPA Gauges. I got the EGT/Boost, Temp/Temp, and the Pressure/Pressure. I am planning on running the temps for the tranny and the engine. The pressures are going to do fuel and rail pressure. I have looked and cannot find what adapters I need. Any ideas?

Talking SPA Gauges

Hello,

Maybe this information will be helpful to you, try (www.glowshift.com). When I purchased my triple gauge pod with gauges from them I was able to find all of the needed adapters on their website for very reasonable prices. Just look under the "install accessories" tab.

I've not been too impressed by my SPA gauges - the EGT and temperature gauges I have came with a small electronic conversion boxes for the probes. I've had 3 go bad in the past couple years - give weird erratic readings. And to replace them, EXPENSIVE. Started buying GlowShift and they're pretty nice (and inexpensive).

I have had my spa gauges for 12 years now. Only probem I have had has been the led lights going out. What adapters are you talking about? Not sure what you mean. My gauges came with virtually everything needed to hook them up.
Assuming your set came with the sensors your egt gauge just drill and tap the location of your choice to the size of the sensor fitting. The boost decide on where you are going to put your boost sensor. You could drill and tap the correct size of the sensor in the intake horn, a boost bolt which replaces and intake horn bolt such as this http://www.genosgarage.com/RLT-BOOST...o/RLT-ADAPTER/ would work as well. My 01 had a plug on the driver side of hte engine toward the rear that I used but unsure if hte newers have that or not.
Tranny temp again decide on location in the pan drill and tap to correct size of sensor, some prefer the hot line you can cut insert the proper size fitting (like a "t"). engine temp are we talking oil or water temp. If oil not sure on newer ones but on my 01 there was an extra port on top of the filter head which works fine for my guage. Fuel pressure same thing you can insert a T fitting in the fuel line after the lift pump before or after the filter but before the injection pump and screw the sensor into that. I am not familiar enough with the 3rd or 4th gen fuel systems to say for sure to know what options there are on those. I can give no advice on the rail pressure sensor as I dont have one of those since I dont have a common rail on my truck. However there obviously is a place to do it as many have done it.

I never said they were missing anything.

With all SPA dual digital, there is the gauge, the wire harness and from there various sensors (I have air temp in/out, boost/EGT, tranny/differential)

Included with the EGT probe and air in/out sensors there is an electrical adapter between the probes and wire harness. It's called a thermocouple adapter box. This is what has failed on me.

Furthermore, all that the air temp probe is, is just two tiny wires soldered together that is installed into the air stream using a drill and tap 1/8 inch Swagelock fitting. Cheap - especially when you're paying big money for a gauge. Glowshift has a proper and robust air temperature probe - so I'm going this way..

As for my temp/temp gauge I use to monitor charge air temps, I am going to convert to a coolant/oil temp gauge by using their liquid temperature probes that do not require the adapter box.

Thanks for the info. I got them all installed and working good except one of the temp gauges. I want it to read the engine temp but I don't know where to do it. This site helped me out quite a bit on the install: http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...auge%20install

I have finished installing them completely. I have the Boost/EGT , Temp/Temp , and Pressure/Pressure Gauges. Just for others I got the gauge pod from glow shift. I had to file them out a little for them to fit in. I wired the power into overhead lamp. That was the easy part.

The boost and EGT were straight forward. I bought a boost bolt from a local place and put it on the intake plane towards the back of the motor so it would fit with the pressure sensor.

For the Temps I ran Transmission and engine coolant temp. I followed the directions from glow shift for the transmission location, but you do not need the adapter they say to use. It fits right in. For the coolant temp I bought the water temperature sensor hose adapter from glow shift. I got the 42mm one. They said it doesn't fit, but it worked and I do not have any leaks.

For the fuel pressure I got a snubber value and banjo bolt from Glow Shift. I installed it on the bottom of the fuel filter. For the Rail pressure I got in contact with SPA and they sent me a new harness for that taps into the OEM Sensor. It comes with instructions and is very easy to navigate.

If I could post a pic I would, but I couldn't find out how to get them from my computer to here.
