Installing mine tomorrow...planning to use lap joint band clamps....$8.35 per from Rock Auto.
Definately use the accuseal clamps. I used the regular clamps to start out with and some leaked. Bought the accuseals and no leaky.

The "cat" is very restrictive. It looks like a beehive inside. But for those of us in the emission controled areas, it was to be there.

Yes it does have to be there that doesn't mean it can't have a conference call with a hammer to "gut the kitty"..!!

You could do that if you want, or buy a "cat delete" pipe and swap it out every two years at testing time, but that's a hassle. I am told that it won't pass the emission test without the converter in place. So don't gut the cat, I'll bet it would be expensive to replace.

I just got rid of a gas-powered GMC that would cost me $250 every two years trying to pass the emission test. I don't want to go through that again.

Magnaflow is super quiet. Very little noticeable sound over stock. More like a change in tone. I speak from experience.

I was in the service dept of my dealership today checking the price of a rear bumper for a buddy who got rear ended, and I asked two of the service guys about changing out the muffler and warranty issues...they both advised me that it would not be a good idea to change out to a less restrictive muffler because it would decrease backpressure and make the engine run less efficiently, which in the long run would cause issues...any thoughts on that?

That sounds like something the dealer would tell you so you wouldn't put aftermarket parts on your truck. I'm not a Cummins mechanic so I can't say it's not true.
