Something wierd happend with my truck.

Well I went to start my truck this evening to let it warm up and it started right up but it sounded funny. At first i tough it was because it was cold and it hasn't run since friday so i let it go and went back into the house. After a minute or two the high idle kicked in and thats when i noticed something was really not right. It was running really rough like it was not firing on all cylinders it was even shaking slightly. I rev'ed it quick to see if that would make it stop but it didn't. I then backed it down on level ground and let it sit for a min and then shut it off. After a min i started it up again and it sounded fine, smooth idle again. Anyone know what happened? I've never had this happen before and I've started it in a lot colder weather.

My 03 has done that same thing a couple of times before. Truck shakes like it is missing on one cyl. I revved mine up to like 1800 -1900 or so & held it there.I would clear up after a few seconds.I would say it has happened about 3 or 4 times since I bought it.(new in 03) I changed fuel filters and added Power Service additive every time it did it.Seemed to clear it up.
So my opinion is that you need to change filter and tank up and add a good fuel treatment. Hope it helps,LJ

I wouldn't think it would be bad fuel seeing that i'm about at 1/4 tank. I just added some power service so we'll see what that will do and my filters shouldn't need changed because i just put my airdog on in september. The outside temp was around 34. jgiachino and 03school bus that is exactly what it sounded like. I haven't run the truck since it happend but i should be taking it out tonight so i'll see if it happens again.

Ok so i ran the truck this evening no problems but i did find some codes...
0088-Fuel rail Pressure above max limit
0461-Fuel Level sensor 1 performance
So what does this mean. I wouldn't think either would make the truck run like it did but who knows. any help!

Mine just has more vibration at idle and through the throttle pedal....no codes, just doesnt feel right....sound wise it's hard to describe as i'm deaf out of 1 ear...so not my cup of tea....sounds rough / bit more higher pitch tones....

At least you have codes...something to research....someone should be able to help with those

First, clear those codes using your Diablo if you haven't done so already. 0088 sounds like you use some pressure and it'll throw that code once and awhile. Shouldn't affect running conditions except for shortening injector life. Don't know about 0461...
Only other thing I can think of is the 3 cylinder idle (I think) that it'll do when it's really cold outside. Sounds really nasty but that's what it's programmed to do. Keep us informed.

I'm not sure the third gen trucks have the three cylinder idle. I could be wrong but I thought that was a feature on the 12 valvers.

I have the smarty now i just forgot to change my sig. But i cleared the codes so we'll see. The three cylinder idle was the first thing that i though of too but i wasn't sure if these trucks did that and then it kicked into high idle and i didn't think it would do that while on three cylinders. Well so far i haven't had that problem again other then it happend again that same night after the truck had sat for a few hours. Hunting season starts monday so she'll get run a lot so i'll keep my eye on it and see if it happens again.
