Red face So I Rolled Optimus Over the Scales Tonight...

and it seems that my guestimations were quite "spot-on". This was taken with a completely full tank of fuel and me, Emily, and Diesel in the truck.
The guy working the scales laughed at me and called Optimus a "lightweight"!
Here is the story:

Dang David, cut back on the rations dude! My 3500, which you saw in Dec., with me, full fuel tank, cross over box full and 100 gallons of diesel in the transfer tank only weighs 8490#. I guess those megcabs are mega heavy. What gives?

I have about 600 lbs. extra in wheels and 65 in the tonneau cover. That plus 600 lbs. worth of people (Diesel counts as a person as he is smarter than most! ). That right there puts an extra 1265 over what it would normally weigh (8375). Subtract 35 gallons worth of fuel (265lbs.) and another 250lbs. at least in Road Armor and you are back to 7840 (only 30 off the door sticker) which is probably due to all of the other fluids in the engine.

And besides, us megacabbers can handle the mega payloads!

I figure Diesel would be 600 all by himself.

Good think you got a dually, otherwise you would be over the GVWR without any cargo/trailer tongue weight. As it is you only have, what about 900lbs left? Either way, thats a lot of truck. Good thing you got that extra power to make it go.

Is it true that Great Danes don't live long?

If yes, an owner would need not to have problems w/depression.

I think 8-10 yrs is a good life for a Great Dane. In general, the bigger the dog the shorter the life.

We have a local grain elevator that does not shut off their scales. Simply wait until after hours and pull onto the scale. Thru the windoe the digital readout is visible.
Today My 2500 weighed #7910 with myself and my plump black Lab. We had an ice storm last night so there was about 1/4" of ice on my truck x-cept the windows

TheBigNasty: Diesel often feels that way when he jumps on you in the morning!

hotrod929: Yes, in fact his dad is the all-time winningest Blue Dane in the history of the breed. Diesel only weighs about 165; we never raised him to be a show dog where he would have been closer to 200.

nirion: According to the door tag, I only have 860lbs. left because of the dumb 10,500 GVWR instead of the 12,200 or whatever the other duallies get. That's O.K. though, I made sure the D.M.V. put 23,500 as my GCVWR!

ptgarcia: Be quiet! Optimus is sensitive about his weight!

Danes typically live in the 8-10 year range, but it is greatly determined by the longevity of the parents. Diesel's breeder has had many Dane live past 10 and some even to 14, so I am hopeful, but definitely want no less than 10. regardless, it will not be long enough as I have purchased myself a personal tragedy!
