Smarty and Smoke

I run my Smarty on level 3. (DTT tranny will be done in a week!) I have quite a bit of smoke when towing my boat. My boat is covered with soot after a 200 mile haul to the coast. Any suggestions on settings or how not to have so much smoke? I would assume that the higher the setting, the more smoke. Anyone else have this problem? My 60 hp setting (#3) easily smokes twice as much as my superchip did on the highest performance setting which I think was 120 hp. I ran 13.9 with the Superchips, so I know the power was there.
Any suggestions or infor greatly appreciated. Bob and Marco, please feel free to chime in or send PM.
THanks guys!

we need to get you set up with the aftermarket injector software in your smarty.

You can download the software from the MADS download page.

This should help.

I bought a smarty today and it will smoke if I want it to. I like that factor. my transmission doesnt have many miles on it and it wants to hunt for a gear between 2nd and 3rd I think. It did it some with the triple dog, but its worse with the smarty. does anybody know why this is?

I am not at all dissapointed with the smarty. It is very similar to the power of the crazy larry setting and it seems like there is a few slight issues in it, but it does run well and seems run cooler also.

I can definitely say it is awesome! I love it. I know there are several programs and that is why I asked. It is very nice to have flexibility and reliability with the Smarty

I've actually removed my SmartyCR just last week in favor of my FlashPaq due to uncontrollable smoke and poor fuel mileage, I lost approx. 2MPG compared to the FlashPaq. I've also tried the aftermarket injector software w/stock tq management with little to no improvement.

The SmartyCR would be perfect if it didn't smoke so easily with light throttle applications and had a little more umph on the top end. Just my .02 cents.

Good Luck!

I run the wild TQ managment. The HTS tranny loves it. I havnt ran above level 7. Usually stays set on 5. I also run the aftermarket turbo download. It will spike at about 45psi.

When I asked Dusty at HTS what level of TQ managment to run he said whatever the highest is and try to tear the tranny up. He is confident in his product.

Mine doesnt hunt for gears but I think there is a difference in the 04.5 and up. I think (correct me if I am wrong) that the 04.5 still uses a kick down cable and 05 and up is electronically controled.

I would not be so quick to sell your smarty. Marco is far from over in the software development.

Buts its your call

If I towed all the time I wouldnt want the smoke, I can understand that. I bought a juice for my 05 and put it on and was dissapointed that it wouldnt smoke much. most stuff made by superchips wont smoke. I thought of trying the flashpaq, they are reasonably priced. my buddy bought the superchips for his 2001 and returned it. I ran a superchips on my 02 gas chevy and it did ok. it removed the mph limit if needed.

what kinda boat do you have? im having the same problem with mine. i keep it on 5 and it smokes constantly. everything runs cool except the tranny temp gets pretty warm in a little stop and go traffic.

bob/marco

what setting do youll recommend using when towing? and i know what megabomb is talking about when it comes to mpg. whats the best setting for fuel. highway driving @65 is about 16mpg on a good day. usually about 15 with mixed driving. it went down substantially over the SC i used to have. any changes i can make to get the mpg's back. and no i dont always mash the motor. sometimes i drive to see what i can get for milage and im always disappointed

mod trq/#5

coonrod if I floor it the hunt goes away. I have talked to dusty about it and he said it should improve. im not unhappy with the tranny but man it shifts hard. I plan on getting a daily driver soon to keep miles off of it anyway, I hope mine dont break it has all billet shafts that werent cheap. yes you are correct no kickdown cable 05/06

I have a few boats that range from 8,000 lbs Down to around 2000 lbs. Got a flats cat for the coast and some others for skiing and one for duckhunting (airboat) and another for gigging and bowfishing. I tow them a lot, every weekend I am somewhere. I did see a little mpg drop (about 1mpg) when I switched to the smarty. My biggest concern was egt, boy will the superchip supercharge the EGT's when towing. Also has some VERY high rail pressures. Not sure about smarty's rail pressure, but I like it a lot. I know it just ramps up throttle percentages quicked than the SC, but have not had time to see all the #'s. I really like the smarty more than the SC, (Marco listen!) but it would be really nice to have a little less smoke under light throttle. I think that would also help the mpg a little. But we all know we didn't get these trucks for MPG right! That said, man I miss my 02 that got 18 mpg hand calculated while towing my 8,000lb boat 65-70 on the road!!!
