smarty doesn't add pressure to the rail which will take out the injectors but i would watch for that stock tranny on higher levels it will slip the clutch and eat a TC alive

If you stay on level 1 or 3 (or an easy level 5)....you can run on a stock auto....level 5+ with aggressive driving will eat the stock auto alive! Injectors should be no problem as there's no pressure added.

Not to thread jack, but I too have an 05, and I was wondering about this too. I like the ideas the smarty has, just don't want to blow the transmission. I couldn't afford a new one right now lol. Anyways, your saying the smarty on 1 or 3 would be a good bet. Anything higher your pushing it? Also how does the smarty smoke on these settings?

Smarty smokes quite a lot on those settings.

-- 1 or 3 is going to be ok on a stock truck unless you just absolutely beat the living tar out of it daily...i drove mine on 3 on a nearly stock truck (05 and 06) without issue....normal driving with some fun once in a while...like smoking hemi's.

Anything higher your pushing it?
--borrowed time on level 5+ unless you're real lucky or drive like a saint

Also how does the smarty smoke on these settings?
--old versions of the software - you bet on number 3 if you want it to it would lay a nice cloud....new version (beta) comming out soon has drastically reduced smoke

Level 3 = 60 hp = makes the truck feel like a total different animal compared to stock....better throttle response, low end grunt, cooler egt's....it's just good stuff....only downside is that you'll want to go higher levels and that leads to $'s or broken stuff then $'s.....i was actually able to control myself until i got the trans done...but it was close!

FYI, if you dont think you're ever going to sink $'s into a trans and other stuff...get the smarty jr....its got identical software and will save enough $'s to get an intake or guages....

I too have a stock 2005 truck, but with an NV5600. I'm looking for improved fuel economy mostly at the reasonable speeds we have here in Montana. Probably wouldn't push much past 75mph.

Stock feels a little soft when rolling on for a pass. A bit more throttle response here would be nice.

Software 1 = ??

Is there a Software 2??

Software 3 = ??

Experience with economy also would be highly appreciated.

i have seen a smarty smoke a auto tranny on level 3 but the guy beat on the thing daily. a TC and VB would make the tranny able to hold pretty much smarty up to like level 7

I have been running my smarty for about 2 months with it set on SW 3 and I drive pretty hard and have had no problems with my stock auto. I am alittle scared to turn it up because I have a very heavy foot some day I will do some tranny upgrades.

Bob,

Just out of curiousity, what version of Smarty are you referring to for the power levels you mention above for settings 1, 2 and 3?

I have the S-06 on my 2006 truck, purchased approximately 8 months ago, and the levels as I understand them are: SW # 1 : 30 Hp increase, with added timing; SW # 2 : 60 Hp increase, no added timing; SW # 3 : 60 Hp increase, with added timing.

Are the numbers you've mentioned for a different model Smarty, or has the software changed, or??

Just want to verify what I've got (or what I think I've got) and what I might be missing.

TIA! EDR

I have a Stock '06. I just added the SMARTY recently and LOVE it. I haven't noticed much improvement in fuel economy. Maybe a little. But I haven't been able to keep my foot out of it for a full tank yet either. I have been running on level 1 most of the time. I tried the 90hp with timing, keep in mind I have a 6spd. manual. The 90 hp setting is a lot of fun. Feels like a completely different truck. I did also load the 130hp setting with timing just to see what it was like. The power is there as soon as you touch the throttle. Even though I loved the 130hp, I only left it on this setting for a short drive. I figured that I would waste too much fuel if I left it there very long. If fuel wasn't $3.50/gallon I would run it at the 130hp mark all of the time. As far as smoke, I notice a short burst on level 1 when I shift and a nice cloud if I mash on it. I tried level 5 as it was getting dark and therefore couldn't tell how much smoke I left.

The new release of smarty software adds a tad more to the ratings from before (30 hp is now 40 hp,....)....the physical smarty didnt change, just the software and it will be published on the web when they're ready (i believe soon), or you can send an email to bob wager...

Jgiachino - thanks for the reply.

So the numbers must be for the refined software from the beta 4.4 version we've all been reading about for the last few months?

I see they had an updated version of the software on the Mads website, are those the new versions of the software you mentioned or are Marco and Bob going to announce an official release of the new improved software?

Again, TIA!

The new beta hasn't been released yet. You can PM Bob Wagner for the beta software.
