Yea the mirror defrost. I live in TX. Did not need the A/c just trying to see if it would work, as the **** that changes between floor, combo, defrost, and so on. Will not work either.
Although just to make ya feel bad it was over 50 here today.

Bob, the Smarty is sweet tool no matter what anyone says!!! A few guys up north run them on the 3rd gens and they have never had a problem. It seems someone needs to get over their beef???? I can't wait to own a 3rd gen and play with a smarty on it, thanks Bob/Marco......

Yes I had the windows down when driving home from work. I love the warm weather. I just got back from Omaha, Ne. Below 0 temps. Makes me like TX even more.

They meant me... For some reason they dont come out and say my name. They act like Im the only one that has had problems with the smarty. Lol! I think its awesome if it works for your truck and doesnt screw it up like some. Or if it doesnt work well with other mods.

Ive seen it on trucks and it works very well... Then on some it doesnt. Hopefully Marco does come out with better things. If it would out do my bully dog program I would run it but it didnt have the power plus I couldnt run the tst to get the top end. Possibly the new wild program is better...

Hopefully blcoonrod gets his truck back to normal....

Just dl'd the WILD software. I'll try it tomorrow after work. Im not sure if I can handle more smoke though. Heck I had it on 2 today and I could still get a pretty big cloud. These people in Texas were flippin me off left and right. I think its time for the h2o to clean up some of that smoke and egt's.

Workin in Gonzales TX for a couple of weeks and passed right by college station. Lots a big trucks around here, I figured they would be used to the smoke.

Anybody ever look at their overhead while the smarty is downloading? Why would it blank out the mpg and dte and nothing else. Seems odd to me why just those 2 and nothing else. What gives Bob/Marco?

Just saw this thread,

I've checked the wiring diagrams. The ECM has nothing to share with the HVAC module except the PCI bus over which all the modules in the truck talk.
I can't find any relationship with the ECM programming and a problem on the PCI bus thus the HVAC. The PCI is a bus used to connect all the modules in the truck, for the ECM programming a different bus is used.

Yet, that internal error MSG from Smarty is a obvious sign of a problem with that unit! Let's assume for a moment that Smarty programmed a glitch into the ECM ( It's almost impossible with all the security checks we have build into Smarty's firmware but I can't see any other plausible cause...that's IF Smarty caused the problem). A single glitch could cause all kinds of problems. Maybe even also on the PCI bus? Sorry I don't have an answer here.

Anyway, the internal problem means one thing for sure. You'll need a new Smarty! Then program the ECM again with it in order to rule the above out.
If the problem is caused by a glitch in the SW then a new update to the ECM will fix it.

Marco

Good question!
The question is rather simple. During an update the ECM is taken off of the bus through which it talks to the other modules. Thus the data in the overhead that normally come from the ECM are blank. Normal.

one thing that I think is funny is how these guys always say "IF it was the smarty"...... You are talking about 04 and 05 purchased trucks with plenty of trouble free miles all of the sudden having a problem. hmm, that would clear up the IF for me pretty quickly. I feel for you guys and I will never download a non stock problem onto my truck, external boxes for me all the way. That is just how I feel about that, I do not own a smarty or any other downloader. cowboydave has also changed his mind on the downloader thing and wont even use his bullydog now.

you should stop by and meet all the college station folks you see on here. some local guys have gotten smoke tickets actually....and i've only gotten the finger once for smoke. generally everyone here is cool with smoke....back home i had people following me chewing me out for black smoke...the cops back don't care though since they also drive modded cummins!

The reason they say if, is because our trucks are full of electrical connections that can go bad at anytime!! For instance i had my SBC DD installed 7 days ago, 2 days ago my truck wont start, the clutch safety switch fried....Is that because the clutch was installed?? NOPE, it is because the switch decided too take a dump around the same time. The unfortunate thing is ppl start blaming add-ons for problems because the probelm showed up around the same time, so therefore it must be because of X brand product. I am not saying the smarty did not cause this problem, but make sure you have ALL the facts before blaming something, troubleshoot first...flame later!!!
