Smarty JR vs. Edge Juice w/ Attitude
Smarty JR vs. Edge Juice w/ Attitude
Wanting to give my 05 a little more response but want to do it as safely as possible. What is the best "bang for the buck" and best tuner for my 2005 Cummins? Smarty jr is 495$ easy install no gauges. Smarty jr and Autometer gauges i want are going to be pushing 1,000$ Edge Juice w/ Attitude CTS 980$
Question is do I need gauges for the smarty jr?? If I need gauges I was looking at the Edge because I had it on my 99' and it was great! Just seems like if gauges are needed that the Edge would give you more in several ways than the smarty jr with gauges.
Thanks

Yes you need gauges. I even think a stock truck should have a few more gauges to see what is really going on in the engine.
I also say Smarty Jr. and be done!!
I have heard good things on the Edge but the Smarty just out performs it.

Whenever my stock clutch goes out, I will be putting a smarty jr on mine. Edge might have more power, but I don't want that much anyway. More horsepower leads to more problems. Also, you won't see the smarty after install since it's a programmer, so who cares if it looks like it's from the 60's.

Also the Smarty actually lowers your EGT's and with the new UDC out (soon to anyone who wants it) you will have infinite options for programming which the edge will never have.
I went with the Edge. for my 04.5 DRW I use it for towing. I run on level 3 for everything. I like the CTS monitor for gauges. If you don't like messing with your programer, and like changing programs on the fly I like the Edge. Granted your egts will be a little higher with the Edge but theses small stock huffers on these trucks don't move enough air, you'll need to upgrade your turbo anyways.
The smarty jr was designed specifically for the otherwise "stock" truck and within parameters of a stock tranny, turbo and ect. Also to be able to work where gauges are not mandatory. That is why it isn't pushing a ton of power. If you want more power, then get the smarty 06 and prepare to upgrade a lot of things. I agree that gauges should be used with a stock truck even.
The preferences between programmer vs a box like edge or TST (a better box IMO) have been long debated but are simply a users choice.
When it comes down to the actual performance of the tune though, the only thing that equals or surpasses the smarty is EFI live. The early results on the smarty UDC appears to narrow the gap between smarty and EFI live, but it's not clear that it's even; right now EFI has a clear edge. The rest of the products are not even close.
For the average guy that wants a little more performance without having to do supporting mods, you can't beat the smarty jr IMO.

Used Edge W/Attitude
Can anyone help? Im trying to buy a used edge with attitude monitor that was installed on an 04 ram 2500. Mine is an 03 ram 2500. The model of edge chip is a EJD3000A. I know all the wiring is the same on the two truck but will the chip still work? is there anything I need to do about the V.I.N. or settings on the chip to make it work on my truck? Any help would be a life saver!

the truck its coming off is it a 04 or a 04.5. the 03 had a 305 horsepower and the 04.5 had 325 so i think there was difffernet programming for the 2 motors..
Yep, I'm the proud new owner of Edge Insight CTS and a Smarty JR and I LOVE IT! haven't had it on but for a week and it seems that it has boosted milage around 1.3 miles (hand calculated) to the gallon and thats only on the 40hp setting. And the Edge Insight CTS DOES control your Smarty JR POD! Smarty should be standard for every common rail owner!
