Smarty Jr Setting Question??
Smarty Jr Setting Question??
When I want to change the SW level (or make any changes for that matter) do I have to unplug the unit and turn the truck off after each change?
Example: When I first connect the Smarty to the ECM and I am changing the truck from SW1 to SW2 (or vise-versa), do I have to unplug the the unit when it's done and turn the truck off every time I make a change before I go to changing the TQ & TM settings?
I'm religiously following the instructions per the unit when making changes from one SW level to the next. I just didn't know if I was wasting time unplugging and plugging the unit into the ECM if it wasn't necessary when I'm looking to make other changes as well.
I'm just curious if I'm doing what's necessary or if there is a faster way of navigating through all the available setting options.
Thanks in advance for the feedback!

No need to unplug the Smarty.
Just make sure you make all the setting changes before loading the new SW level. For example if you change from SW1 to SW2 and go through the updating process, and then change the Timing or torque, your new timing and torque setting will not be loaded until your NEXT update process. They will be saved in memory is all. The instructions are a bit confusing on this.

Thanks again Rockcrawler304...that's excatly what I needed to know. I'm really glad you sent me that when you did. I had just walked in the house from dialing her down to SW1, THEN had set the TQ and TM setting afterward. I thought it was a little fast for it to simply update my new settings after I had juts set the SW program. After reading your post I went back out and ran a NEW update with the TQ and TM in the memory. Perfect...thanks again!
BTW:
Took her for a test drive on SW1 DD. I think this setting will do fine until the tranny upgrades. Should have done this a couple weeks ago instead of getting so comfortable with the SW2 power. I realized QUICKLY that I needed to save myself from the temptations surrounding the SW2 & 3 settings with a stock tranny!

I got real used to SW3 until my clutch told me to back it down. SW1 was just "Not enough" so I take it kind of easy on SW2 now. The clutch is still not happy in 6th gear but 3rd and 4th are still fun
It's ceratibly not "right around the corner" for me. But I can't wait to eventually make the necessary upgrades to my tranny in an effort to take full advantage of the SW 2 & 3 settings for daily driving!

Yeah...it makes plenty of since now. But initially I was thinking...
"How does me making this quick little change to TM & TQ actually get programmed into my SW setting after the fact?"

I could be wrong, but I thought I saw where you upgraded your tranny? Was that someone else on here?

Must have been some one else. I have the 6 speed and need to take it easy until I can put a good clutch in it
Another guy on here gave me a lead on a Trans shop in Grffin, GA that is supposed to be solid (Garmons Diesel Performance)
I figure I'm gonna give them a shout and explain my needs/ wants...from what I have heard (and read) they do a lot of custum stuff for guys like me all the way to weekend racers. Basically need to know hom much money to start putting aside! Never ends...never ends

You could plan on 3k on up for a good rebuild. Just let them know what you're goal is and they will get you what you need. Remember, build to overkill specs the first time and never look back.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to ease into this conversation with the wife?

Just got off the phone with Jeff from Garmon's...looks like Daddy's gonna have to put away a cool 5K to make this thing bullet proof. However, he did say with that set-up I would be good up to and just beyond 700 hp (I have no intentions on hitting that number...). So to your point, looks like I'm gonna do it once and forget about it!

"honey, I have good news and bad news"
"Good news is I will never have to worry about the tranny going BOOM!!"
"Bad news is, the kids' college fund is going to be drained for a while"
