Smarty Jr POD towed 1900 miles to race AMA at Road Atlanta have questions

This past weekend I towed my 9000lb (includes bikes) toy hauler from NJ to Road Atlanta to compete in the AMA races held down there. The round trip was about 1900 miles. I was using SW2 Timing 4 tq 0 and POD 80%.

I started the trip with SW3 but the truck held so long in each gear before shifting, I decided I didn't like this and moved to SW2.

I'm only concerned with mileage so I thought the timing at 4 would give me the best mileage. But when I arrived at Road Atlanta the side of my white trailer was grey and when I returned home much of it was a darker soot color and I don't want to be washing her every time I move her.

If I move the timing to 2 will this eliminate the smoke problem? What are you guys finding the best setup for highway fuel mileage towing a similar load?

Thank you,
Z

But TQ is what gives you low end fueling and I think 0 was least and 4 being the most. . . . .so more low end fuel more tourqe and more smoke until the turbo spools. Maybe it is just more of a low end smoke ****.

I thought. . . Timing was more for fuel quality, altitude and yes more power as you advance but, to much and some report popping noises, I think on the Big Smarty mostly. I leave mine on eco/40HP mode when I tow, my lowest smoke setting so my toy hauler does not end up all grey like your trailer.

I would make a change drive a tank of fuel then go at it again. I have been adjusting mine every couple weeks since I got it.
