plug the smarty in and the software virsion will show for a few seconds, it should be 5.14b if you tow set it to level 2 or tow timing 2 torque 4 if you do not tow use level 3 tm2 tq4. if it is not 5.14b download the new software first

I just got one. I installed the 5.14b. Put it on the truck to SW3 timing 2 torque 4 POD 99. I love it. I will probably back down the POD or change to SW2 when towing my camper next summer.

How to use Smarty JR

I have an 06 dodge mega cab 6spd and I just bought a smarty JR and this is the first tuner I've ever used. Just need some info on how to use it. Any advise would be great. Thanks

With 116k miles and a stock clutch I can only go to SW2 now (see sig) but get my best mileage on SW3. I do tow on SW2 though.

What exactly are you wanting to know? I dont know much. Its my first smarty. I just set it all up so if you have any questions I will try to answer them.

As far as getting the software on the computer. Then from the computer to the smarty. Then from the smarty to the trucks ECU. I thought all that was a breeze. The videos on smartys site are great step by step.

Try PoD 90 for daily driving/towing/etc. It's the same total power, just a smoother pedal.

I would back the software down, even PoD 70 produces the same power as PoD99 below about 2250 rpms.

My dad has 105K on his stock DMF clutch for his 06 with his SJR and heavy towing on SW1

I replaced the cluth on my NV5600 at around 70K miles because I could slip it on SW3 with the added torque from the increased spool of the cam/turbo at low rpm. It was not easy to slip and I only was able to do it once, but I changed the clutch anyhow.

So if your clutch is in good shape you should be able to run SW1 no problem, and maybe SW2 with a smart foot. SW3 is possible, but I wouldn't push it.

Thank you. have 77,xxx on my truck now and have never had any trouble with the clutch. I regularly haul cattle, hay, and equipment. I was looking at the Smarty jr for PoD being able to turn hp down for better mileage when running empty. But the 40 hp would be nice to have when you need it. gives me alot to think about. now i just have to figure out how i can write one off on taxes! haha

Just got my Jr. yesterday and programmed today. Went with sw2 Tm2 Tq2.
Seems good no hint of slip while running empty. I am more and more tempted to try sw3 but think I might then be on the road to a new clutch which isn't in the budget right now. Has anyone been able to run 3 without slipping the stock clutch? I suppose depending on your gear ratio and tire size you might get away with it??

Sw 3 is not clutch friendly.... Ask me how I know.

Replace the clutch with a Valair dual disk unit and never looked back. Now I think I need the Smarty Sr.
