Smarty JR 1st impressions
People are saying Jr: E,T & C correspond to Sr #1,3 & 5. But I've also read that Jr provides boost fooling, and I thought to get that on Sr you had to download the "aftermarket turbo" software. If so, then they aren't the same, right?
WAM,
I'am going to take a stab here without any input from the makers. You are partially right about Jr. economy, towing, and performance are not exactly the same as the old Sr. 1,3,5 levels. The Hp numbers are even different. I think they just reference them that way for a guide. Now what the new software for Smarty Sr. is compared to Jr. I don't know either.

I found this on timing changes...
Engine parameter:
TIMING is:
RETARDED ( - ) ADVANCED ( + )
EXHAUST TEMP increases decreases
CYLINDER PRESSURE decreases increases
INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE
(BELOW P-TORQUE) WASTEGATED increases decreases
BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption) increases decreases
NOX (oxides of nitrogen) decreases increases
HEAT REJECTION increases decreases
HYDROCARBONS (HC) increases decreases
BLACK SMOKE: 1000RPM increases decreases
BLACK SMOKE: PEAK TORQUE decreases increases
BLACK SMOKE: RATED increases decreases
WHITE SMOKE: < 1000RPM increases decreases
WHITE SMOKE: > 1000RPM increases decreases

My experience so far is that setting:
1 - 40hp is a huge improvement over stock, the throttle becomes a lot more sensitive in the first quarter with the power progressing smoothly the rest of the way to the floor. Cracking the throttle without any boost will yield a good size cloud of black smoke out the exhaust. Once the turbo spools the smoke disappears completely. The Smarty 40hp tune is great, will definitely put a smile on your face, and is a HUGE improvement over stock.
2 - 70hp seems to be the best for my truck, the throttle feels balanced without the sensitivity in the first quarter like the 40hp setting. The power increase is great and can easily sling my 8000# truck sideways in second gear on damp roads. The truck doesn't seem to smoke quite as much at low boost as it does on the 40hp setting but can still put out a decent cloud coming from a dead stop or mashing the hammer from a 45mph TC lockup roll. Watching the speedometer climb from 45 to 70 is sweet kind of has that old school bad spedo cable bounce.
3 - 100hp is extremely smooth in the throttle but seems to be too much for my converter to handle, standing on the hammer will keep the tach floating around 3000rpm in first, second, and third, only dropping a few hundred rpms between shifts. Smoke is heavy at low boost and the truck hazes the whole time the hammer is mashed. Rolling down the road at 40 in tow haul I can easily fog the right lane out for about 100 feet by rolling a quarter of the way into the throttle.
All in all I would have to say the JR is money well spent and I would recommend anyone that is sitting on the fence jump off and get one, unless you have a built trans then I would have to say you'll probably get used to the power in a few months and will be kicking yourself in the butt for not getting the Sr.

EVERYTHING he said is exactly how mine performs now.
Picked up 6 mph in a short stretch(bout 1000 ft) I use as a gauge on my way to work. From a dead stop.
I think all I need is a good valve body and all will be well
One more thing I've noticed with jr is a lot less smoke on cold starts just a little puff right when it starts up and that's it. After that no smoke at all it used to smoke a little for a good 5 minutes on cold starts when it was stock. Idle sounds so much better too.
