Smarty + Goerend VB....what level for the Smarty?
My trans is completely stock. I have ordered a Georend VB and DTT trans controller, what level should I theoretically be able to run the Smarty on without trashing the trans instantly once I get the VB in? I am hoping someone will say "Oh no problem run it on #7 I have been for over a million miles with just a VB" but I am expecting #3 or #5 at the most.
Next year I plan on a converter, so I am hoping to keep the trans in good shape until then.
EDIT: I am installing an aux Holley blue fuel pump before the Smarty this week so fuel pressure shouldnt be a concern.

With just those parts im not too sure. I have a buitl tranny from Dave with shafts and so far it has taken everything that I have thrown at it, including a Smarty on level 9 and WILD programming. But like I said with just those parts I dont know how much you can throw at your tranny. It really depends on what the current condition of everything else in your tranny is.
When I talked to Dave last I asked what would hold 500hp. He said on the '06 a vb and tc would hold it if, and only if, you didn't do boosted launches, dragracing or sled pulled. For the most part the vb will put enough pressure on the clutch packs to keep them from slipping at that level. Of course the vb has nothing to do with the strength of the shafts. At 500hp or more with the vb you don't have to worry about a slipping transmission, you have to worry about your flexplate or input grenading.

I have a Goerand input, TC, BD flex, 2 qt, added trans pan and a shift kit, and I have the Smarty on 130 hp (w/o timing) and a c5 on 3 (seems to run better than on 4). I have a 2 WD and I will run it fairly hard, at the limits of traction when I feel like it. Probably have 1000 miles maybe since the trans upgrade.
Hope it holds up, I'm planning on it

And just who could that be?

I have been running continuously on level 9 for months now. Since at least last February. I tow heavy. I even tried some drag racing last weekend at the Texas Diesel Nationals for fun. (no boosted launch) Trans is fine. It sux because it is stock, but it shifts and feels like it has since new. 78,000+ miles now.
It really comes down to how you drive it. If you beat on it every day it will fail. If you take care of it, it can last a long time on level 9.
I got the Smarty in today and couldnt wait until the VB showed up. I turned my XZT off and installed #7. My trans already slipped and felt like a CVT at WOT on stock power, so with the Smarty on #7 it just does the same. But in third and fourth with the converter locked, this things flies now. The few runs I made it didnt slip the converter. I cant believe how hard it pulls from 70mph. The smoke is pretty crazy too if you lug it. I think I am going to try to run it on #5 daily once I get my valve body in.
Definitely, these are some expensive trans to tear up! I am going to go to #3 until I get my trans parts in. The controller will supposedly let the converter lock in 2nd so that will be nice.
Question: Once the torque converter is locked, if the trans seemed to slip would it just be the converter slipping or is it possible the clutches in the trans would be slipping?
Follow up Question: If you slip your converter and tear it up, would you need to just replace the converter or maybe some trans internals?
Thanks!

I ran my smarty on #9 standard tqman stacked with xzt no issues even towing my 3500lb boat and trailer never changed setting's now I downloaded aftermarket turbo stock injectors moderate tqman trans is really acting up after dragstrip the other day

More than likely the torque converter, but it could be the clutches. If it's a triple disk with a valve body I'd bet it's the trans and not the converter.

If just he converter is torn up and it didn't cause any damage to the clutch packs then just a flush and replacing the converter will do.
Thanks!

Hope this helps.
Yes it does, thanks for the replies. I am trying to decide once I get my valve body in will it be reasonably safe to run it on #5 with most of the danger being tearing up the stock TC. If that is the case, then I am not too worried about that since I am replacing the TC in Spring 08.
