Smarty egt question

I have an 05 auto. I am running on SW 3 now and I am just wondering what level is safe since I don't have gauges yet? I would like to be able to run it a bit higher but I am not sure what the egt's will be doing. I don't tow anything and 95% of the time it is just cruising on the highway, but i just wanted to be able to have more just incase.

Mine on level 3 (with the latest software 2.05A) doesnt get above 1250 in everyday (haulin a$$)....previous software was about 100 deg hotter....as long as you're not going up long grades with the hammer down, or towing, you should be fine....

That being said, get an EGT guage, they arent that much....full guages or commander are approx $300-350....just an egt guage / mount is approx $150...

Ok, so you noticed the boost being lower too? I swear mine stays 5 psi lower than stock or previous versions....but it's just as fast or faster as before???? Not sure how that works?...but i love it!

Do you have an exhaust / muffler / straight pipe of any kind on your truck? I dont go above 3 on the smarty, but I couldnt see level 5 making that big of a difference in egts? I could be wrong, and not doubting you on your truck....but that's why the exhaust related question.

stock exhaust, which is 4" turbo back.

It has nothing too do with the exhaust....it is the stock turbo just doesnt move the air fast enough!!

I agree the turbo is a limitation (and want an sps6280)....and that 4" exhaust is sufficient for under 500hp.....but the stock muffler is a bottle neck that does impact egt's, hence my question about exhaust.

On my stock 06, just a truflow replacement filter and the new muffler (actually a cat back)...reduced egt's by aprox 100 degrees...it has a similiar impact on my smarty and egt's...

On my 05, a mrbp replacement muffler also had a similiar impact...

So in my opinion exhaust (at least the mufler portion) does have an impact.

I have the Quad boost fooler also I can installwhich I am sure would help, but since I don't have gauges yet I am scared of the boost that I could possibly be seeing. What do you guys think, put the boost fooler on or leave it off?

Your going to have to decide that one yourself....you'll get responses from both sides....for me, I dont want to blow up my stock turbo until such time as i know i'm getting a new one.....

You or I can download the smarty version with boost fooling to get enhanced boost (similiar to the Quad BF in that it doenst set an upper limit....and this is free and you dont have to install / uninstall anything when going to the dealer)....and i already have a boost guage....I just know that the smarty will spool it well past it's norm operating range so I personally choose not to do it.

I've seen a lot of views on acceptable max boost on a stock turbo, but i think its around 38psi....although others have run above that for extended time and been fine....if the smarty could set limits on boost, I'd set it at 38 and be happy....
