Smarty For All???

I am contemplating the different boxes and programmers on the market and like what I read about the Smarty. However, I currently have the BDTD w/Outlook and like the switch on the fly feature. I like to drive around on the low setting until someone want’s to play, then it's time to go Crazy Larry on them.

My questions are:

How do you change through the setting on the Smarty and how long does it take?

Does anyone have any experience switching from a shift on the fly format to the smarty, and how has that worked out?

Thanks everyone for the information you have shared…it has helped me in my journey for power.

Smarty would be perfect if it was just adjustable on the fly. It just smokes sooooo much in town but, somtimes you just need to play.

I have a triple dog with outlook and had it loaded. I now have the smarty loaded. I liked the convenience of shift on the fly but I admit, I rarely used that feature. If you are going to use the smarty and feel the need to play then you'll have to use the higher hp settings and drive accordingly, thats all.

I have the triple dog w/outlook. I tried the Smarty and didn't like it. Plus I can see where not being able to adjust on the fly would be a pain for some. I leave mine on crazy larry but when my girlfriend or anyone else drives it, it takes less than 5 seconds to change it. With the Smarty it's the same as loading the bully dog program. 5+ minutes...

Not sure how ling Smarty takes to down load but I have Superchips and it takes about 8 minutes. We should hook up sometime and try swapping downloaders and see what you think. I would like to try something different.

I would say the Smarty takes somewhere in the 8 minute range to upload to the ECM; however, I just leave it on #9 all the time. I have virtually no smoke at all on #9 when I don't have my TST on at all. If I really lay into the throttle at VERY low RPMs and hold it I can get some grey smoke, but no real black clouds. That's rserved for when the TST is on!

That is the only problem I have with smarty is how smokey it is .I drive down town san diego and the cops do not like it at all. I wish the smarty was switch on the fly .I hope when I get a bigger turbo it will fade some of that smoke

A bigger turbo will make it worse for city driving. The only thing a bigger turbo will help is on the top end. After it's spooled it's clear... But getting it spooled is SMOKEY.

Twins are the only thing that can reduce smoke. Also, a 6-speed helps because you can keep the RPMs up when you want/need to.
