I have the BDTD with the Outlook Monitor and I like the "On-th-fly" adjustability. I don't understand the"Smoke and Mirrors" label applied to this programmer. I know that when I change the power setting with the Outlook it definitely makes a difference in the performance of the truck. How it is done I don't entirely know but it makes a big difference. I have the Crazy Larry installed and normally drive with the power setting set lower so I don't accidentally blow too much smoke if I get on it a little, but the ability to kick it up on the fly when challenged is a great feature. IMO

I used to have a BDTD Crazy Larry and if it was "smoke and mirrors" it was the best illusion I have ever seen. Buddy should be on the strip in Vegas making millions with his illusions Bullydog gets bashed a lot on here and I think a lot of it is from people who have never had one. I do prefer the Smarty and that is why I have one, but Bully is not some complete POS like a lot of people make it out to be.

Here is a cut and paste from Buddy on how he does it. The thread was called "Bob,or Marco. Will Smarty ever offer a controler for on the fly level changes?"

Think of it this way. Most programming has a timing map for cold engine temp and one for operating engine temp. It switches the map when the temperature gets hot enough. We just switch the map. I'm not saying it was easy to figure out, as a matter of fact it's pretty complicated, that might explain why no one else is doing it.

I agree...there is a substantial amount of Bully Dog bashing on here and I just dont get it. I had nothing but good luck with my Triple Dog and with the Bully Dog company in general. Only made a few calls but I always got ahold of someone and they always delievered quality feedback to me...

I'd buy their product again.....heh, if there was no Smarty....

it is adj on the fly, just press skinny pedal down for more power!

Funny!! Appreciate all comment. However BOTTOM LINE-- NO ADJ. ON THE FLY. I probably drive my truck on stock setting ? half the time ( or when a truck or ricer fllies up on my bumper, then click cklick about 200 lf lbs torque available NOW------ without stopping, plugging in downloader yada yada yada. Please, no offense, I am more than sure it is an awesome product with great support and I may have one myself someday if they ever don't have smoke issue ( Again, this may not even be factual, just what I have read) Whenever my clutch goes South, I may get a BD TRPL DOG for adj ( hey even if it is smoke in mirrors, if it works - it works.) How much torque can you add with it? I don't care about HP. How much with Smarty only) I mean how much on each, with good good airflow and nothing else. I am thinking about a helix cam and good springs now, but don't know if it worth the money for what I want. I still want to be able to driive my truck on out of state trips and haul my mules, and be dependable, not have to worry about breakdowns because of something I myself have done to my truck. One reason I like being able to go to stock at any time. HaHa I know a different cam and springs are not stock, but, you get my gist. I know I changed cams in my 98 Road King and it really woke it up. HD are as you know, just old Pushrod, not even overhead cam, still air cooled- rely on cubic inches - at least they are fuel injection- ---love them just the same though. Don't know if you get that much gain with diesel, just have heard springs are a weak link. Any more info I can learn from - - - please post. Thanks again.

I will re state one of the beauties of the smarty, having a simple stack, with pressure only, and a decent tune loaded, and then some one just begs for it, be it a quad or ez box, couple clicks away from adding some serious pressure to the mix, and poof, you are gone.... then a few clicks back, and you are runnin around "normal".

I don't think smoke and mirrors is a good term. But the point is, that it is not a true downloader like the Smarty. It is much more like the Juice or Quad box. That doesn't make it bad at all. It's just a little false advertising to some.

Hey MMaze, saw that earlier, and discounted it because I thought it was complicated and I don't know anything about stacking. That may be a good solution for me. If I ever get one I may pm you for details if I can't figure it out. Aw I usually just get Olee Poole to do all my stuff anyway. That way it doesn't take me 2 days what he can do in 3 hrs or so, not to mention fact that then I know its done right. Used to like to wrench some, now I am getting older and lazier with more money as a younger man. What do yall think about cam and spring idea, thought springs may give me more longeivity since I'm like everyone else and like to stomp on it too when mood strikes me or whatever.

I must really not be too bright because I was sure that BDTD flashes a new program to the ECM, all along I have been fooled.

it absolutely does! what do you think it's doing when it shows the % downloaded, when you install the td? 'boxes' like quad, mp-8, etc. don't download anything, and need to be kept plugged in to work, while once the td is finished downloading, it can be removed. amazing how info is 'made up' to help build up one product, and bash the now unpopular one.

I really did know that Chipmonk, I just get tired of all the BDTD bashing in favor of that other programmer. I think they are both fine devices and unless you are going to the track where you need every last bit of horsepower you can get out of the engine it makes little difference which one you choose.

That is not always the case either. I got rid of the Bully because it got my engine very hot. High EGT's and coolant temperature. I saw 230*F coolant at the end of the quarter, and I did not like that. All trucks are different and I know the guy I sold my BDTD has no issues at all. I thought it was a great product and made a LOT of power on Crazy Larry

FWIW I've tried the BDTD and the two don't really compare. Smarty definitely has more power, smoother power, and lower EGT's. When the power is really smooth and linear, the pedal really is the only adjustment you need to make.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad so many guys out there are happy with their Crazy Larry program. It's funny to see their expressions when they realize they're out of levels...and mine still has about two more to go!
