Slipping Trans Question ????
Slipping Trans Question ????
Ok here goes, truck listed in Sig with Smarty usually running on #3, sometimes 5. Not to say I haven't run it on 9, did that one weekend but nothing harsh although I wanted too. Always worried about the "stock" tranny.
Was running it on #5 for about a week or so and did try to do a burn out to show it off, hold brake pedal etc but could not get the rear tires to break free for nothin', happened twice on two different occasions. Thought one of my co-workers used my Smarty to de-tune it (he's another diesel nut and did that one day to me) but it was on level 5. Then this morning after engine warm and smarty on level 3 it stuttered like it was hunting for the gear to be in going about 35-40 mph then settled into the correct gear.
Is this a sign the trans is slipping or what ???
Truck has approx 18k miles on it.

Smarty + Burnout + Stock tranny = CARNAGE!
Well maybe not necessarily but it's still definately not encouraged. But as for your situation you are letting the converter hit its stall speed. You need to hold the brake and get RPMs up to hit the converter stall. If you continue holding the brake it will sit there all day until the converter cooks itself into oblivion. You have to release the brake quite a bit for a second to allow the wheels to start spinning then get back on the brake to hold yourself in one spot once it breaks traction. Obviously you are badly slipping the converter during this whole ordeal and are dramatically shortening the life of your already inferior torque converter. So save your pennies for a built tranny and have fun while the stock one lasts. Sounds like it may be in the near future already.

Have an 06 with JR, 18K miles, and the tranny is not the same since putting it on. The first week it pulled HARD and was a blast on the freeway, it was TIGHT. With the old driving habits it broke the tires loose until I got used to it. Now, the tranny doesnt feel like its as tight as it used to be.
Still breaks the tires loose all too easy though...

My smarty been on #7(130HP) for 25,000KM,I've done burnouts, full boosted 4x4 launches, floored it from a dead stop more times than I can count,i've heald the petal to the floor and brake to the floor many times to get a good launch,My tranny has been the same since the day I drove off the lot, all is well with this 2006
