My 2007 5.9 clutch is slipping already (20k miles) mostly when I am towing and floor it (to pass for example). I suspect this is Smarty related. I have it set on 5. Since I'm not willing to turn off the Smarty, I am looking into a better clutch. I was thinking about the Southbend DD 3250. Does any have this clutch and what are your thoughts? Its pretty expensive, but if it lasts it will be worth it. I'm worried that one day the stock clutch will let go and I will be screwed on the road.

Also, is it normal for the stock clutch to act slip this soon? I would have thought it would last longer.

 

The stock clutch is not wore out, you are putting too much hp to it with the Smarty.... that is why it says they recommend at least an aftermarket clutch.

The 3250 is a great clutch but if you dont plan on adding anymore power the Con OFE is a great option at a much cheaper price.

 

your stocker wont hold up much longer ,the more it slips the worse it is...pretty soon you will probably go to push the pedal in and it will feel like you have a pedal out of an old truck (like 70's gm) and it won't disengage! i had this problem a couple months back and it was the clutch face heating up and sticking to the flywheel.. time for a new one! I put in the con fe and it was fine till a friend drove it..lol so 2 days later i installed the 3250 and so far it is holding all i can throw at it! my stocker had 60,000 kms, the fe had 1883 kms on it and the 3250 has 3000 kms on it!

 

I talked to Peter at Southbend multiple times about this.

He really made up my mind to go double disk. He said it should be a 700k mile clutch at the hp rating (probably under normal driving conditions)

When I got mine I bought the SFI??? flywheel. The price has dropped about $3-400 since I bought mine with the new flywheel material.

The Good:

-Clutch doesn't slip. I tried sled pulling for the first time last week. Smarty on SW9 Tq4. Never even thought about slipping.
-Bye Bye Dual Mass Flywheel.

The ok. (I'm not going to call it the bad since I am extremely happy with what I bought)
-A little longer to shift into gear from a stop.
-A little stiffer than the stocker
-I occasionally get some bucking when backing the trailer in reverse.

 

If you are slipping the clutch while towing with the smarty, you are also probably running real high EGTs also.

I don't see any guages or mods to support that kind of power in you sig.

I have the 3250 clutch and love it, my only gripe w/ it is its SLOW shifting if your into drag racing, and the OFE isnt much cheaper at all in fact the DTR store is selling the 3250 cheaper than what the OFE goes for (if I remember correctly)
