Silencer ring is what it says it is, if removed your turbo will get a little louder but no power gains just sounds alot cooler.

To remove just pull your airbox elbow at the turbo, you will see the ring in the turbo, there is a c clip holdin it in. Just take a screwdriver and pry the c-clip loose the rest I did with my finger. Real easy to do.

The silencer ring reduces noise and slightly improves compressor efficiency.

An MWE slot, or ported shroud compressor housing is what protects against surge; a byproduct of the slot is noise, which the silencer ring reduces. The silencer ring can in fact make surge worse with small exhaust housings by blocking the flow coming from the MWE slot.

That's incorrect.

The compressor housing on these turbos is an "anti-surge" housing. Putting a ring over the anti-surge ports will actually create MORE surge. Dodge did it to quiet the turbo down... plain and simple.... guess they're not interesed in keeping turbos alive.... just keeping them quiet.

So has anyone run into any problems from removing it?
And can it be put pack it as easy as it comes out?
Is the old one that you take out wrecked, or does it have to be replaced with a new one, or can it be put back in?
Thanx

Removed mine in under 10 seconds and could be put right back in. Like said above it is a snap ring holding the metal silencer ring in. All you need is a flat-tip screwdriver.

I actually finally got mine out today. Since I already have a modded airbox and Amsoil filter, I could hear a difference in the turbo. Its not night and day, but the spool sounds different and the full boost whistle is a bit louder.

Oh, my clip was a PITA to get out. I didnt go crazy and rip out the silencer ring like someone else, but it really tested my patience. I finally got it out with 2 flatheads and a lot of patience.

How was your clip oriented? The gap on mine was up near 1 or 2 'o clock. I couldnt hardly see what I was doing, much less get my big hands up there. That was my biggest problem. Im soooo glad thats over. I may never mod again.

so, is it better for my turbo to take the silencer ring out? I know there is no performance gain but don't want my turbo to die anytime soon either. I've got free time today to remove it if I need to.
