Should I go with twins?

Ok fellas.....I know everyone loves twins, but i am a little unsure. Currently with the Silver Bullet I am running 57-60 psi of boost, and I am still throwing 12 valve type smoke out the stacks WOT. and still hitting 1600*F by 110 mph.

Heres the deal.....I can trade my bullet plus 500 bucks for a set of twins. They are pretty much the II towing twins, except instead of the ps62 on top it will be the SPS62, and then the K31 on the bottom. Is this deal worth it?? I do tow every once in awhile which is kind of why my attention got drawn too the deal.

My questions are this:
Is it worth it??
Will I see anymore fuel only power and lower egt's with the twins or am I better off saving my 500 bucks and keeping the silver bullet?

Now i really have never researched twins.....but my guess is I would end up with quicker spool off the line due too the 62, then have more air on top because of the K31??

Any and all feedback is appreciated
Jon.

But in all honesty if your current set up works good dont go through the hassle of twins. They are a royal pain in the rear. Your constantly checking and tighting fittings, checking for leaks etc. They move around alot and are very prone to stuff like that atleast thats what ive seen on my friends trucks

Don't know what twins stainless is running, but I wouldn't buy those!(kidding)LOL

Unburnt fuel going out the exhaust is lost power...Twins will fix that.

I think you would like twins since you like to run the 6spd down the track and its sounds like a good deal on them too.

A rule of thumb is that they will spool slightly slower than the small turbo and move the air of the big turbo. So the SPS62 should help spool compared to your 66 and the k31 should allow more air compared to your 66.

Your 66 is not going to last...and it is NOT fun fixing what bearing debree can do to your oil system/engine.

I think you should save up for a larger set...

With the numbers you are pushing a 62/71/13 or 14 or a 64/65/13 or 14 over a S480 will perform better than your single right now at all levels...all applications.

By 15 psi...no more smoke for me...all the way till 65 psi.

The twins are not a hassle...at ALL! Once they are on....right...and if they are designed right...you never have to touch them. I have never lost a boot...or had to touch a clamp.

Talk to MPI. ;-)

I thought the SPS62 is a 62/71/14 like you suggest.

I am just talking general turbo size...I don't care who's he uses. I know what turbo's I like to use...

I think that is correct about a SPS62...

Well, that was my point. The set he's looking at has a SPS62 already. Yes, the k31 is smaller than the s480 you suggested, but that set up should be good for 650hp+ and for $500 you can't beat it. The large turbo could always be changed out in the future if the want/need was there. So he could spend $500 now or a couple thousand now. If he upgrades the k31 later, he'd still be money ahead.

Obviously everyone has his own opinion, but to me, that's a no brainer.

Well...that is also my point...he is in the knocking on 700's now. A K31 is not a straight swap piping wise. Too small.

Jon, for only $500 in the deal it is pretty good and I would jump on it. You would see exactly what you described... a little faster spool (sps on a twins application is a tad slow but still faster than the bullet by itself) and you would get more air on top. I would guess that you would still see the current 60 psi of boost, but your egts would come down to about 1350 - 1400*

I have to agree with Christian. The way you are set up now is simply inviting certain doom to your turbo and engine. The s400/s480 would be a better application for you long term... but frankly, I can't see you passing on that deal with the K31... it is a pretty good one and the K31 will suit your needs... for now.
