It Should Be a Factory Option - NO HOP!

I was climbing a slight grade with my truck and the surface was sand. I was only doing 10MPH and then the truck started to buck and hop violently! I had to stop and throw it in 4-LOW, it then was much better, but I came home and did a search on wheel-hop.

From the search I found out that wheel-hop is VERY COMMON on these trucks. Whether in snow or sand, it is not IF it will happen, it is WHEN it will happen.

The answer for me???

Through all my research it appears the BEST CURE for the problem is the GDP Ladder Bars. They are pricey but they work, they fit, they get rave reviews. I did have a couple of questions for those with those bars installed:

1 - Will the truck ride "stiffer" or more "harsh" with those bars?
2 - Any drawbacks?

The factory trucks should come with Ladder Bars as an option. Having a $40K truck hop and bounce in the snow or sand is a joke.

Boy I can definitely attest to the violent wheel hop especially in snow. I to would like to know how the guys running GDP Ladder bars like them and how they affect ride quality and handling as a whole.

I like these:

I haven't been able to get wheelhop with them, and they're pretty quiet with the preload I adjusted them to.

XLR8R, I cant make out the picture well, but can your axle move up and down ? It looks like your steps are mounted to your traction bars, and solidly to the frame? Just Curious.

That's not the best camera angle on that photo; the ladder bars bolt-on to the lower shock brackets and frame rails, and the heavy-duty step bars I made bolt on to the frame right next to where the heim joints are mounted.

The axle can move up and down, it just can't move forward or back, or rotate in reaction to torque applied to the tires.

I'm too cheap to buy those so I got the Tuff Country traction bars that bolt on top of the axle. Hopefully they will help. It is utterly ridiculous that these trucks hop around so badly in snow or sand. DC should be ashamed of themselves.....

How do think DC should have designed the rear suspension?

What's all this HOP about?

I've driven up sandy inclines, snowy hills and haven't whitnessed this. Does it only hop when you have it in 2wd, stock tires or what?

I too am looking for a cost effective solution for the wheel hop in snow and sand. No drilling or wielding preferred.

this is what DC does with srt's to minimise wheel hop, maybe a cheap/easy fix for it.

the last pic is a shock mounted to the top of the carrier to the frame.

GDP bars rock.... On the street you can't even notice them until you get on the throttle, then the rear is glued to the pavement. Everyone that sees them on the truck wants a set.... Then when they ride in it they want the number where they can get some. lol!
