Scotty Air 5 installed! I have concerns!

OK, I just finished installing the Scotty Air 5 I received yesterday. Before the installation I never had EGT about 800. I use my truck for normal everyday driving, not hauling. I just drove it around for a while after installing the Scotty Air and it is hitting 1200 EGT. This can't be good. Also, typically by the time I have backed into my driveway the EGTs are down to 400. I have to wait an additional 8 minutes for it to drop to 400 with the Scotty Air.

I checked for any blockage, but all is well. Any reason my EGTs are going up instead of down?

Did you remove the front cover on the truck? The one that covers the hole for the Scotty 5 to get the forward facing air? It pops off. It lets the air go between the passenger headlight and the radiator support.

The only other thing I can think of is...did you align the cone for the filter so that all four feet are supporting the filter at the forward inlet? If not, it could block some air.

Let me know.

It will reduce egt not increase...lets get it solved.

Scotty,

Thanks for the quick response. I just re-read the instructions and I cannot find anywhere where it says to remove the "front cover". I will try that in the morning. Could is be that this filter was dripping with oil when I got it. I did not think they were supposed to be oiled that much. Maybe it takes a day to condition itself?

Scotty, this may be a dumb question but with your intakes you keep the stock tube from your box to the turbo, correct?
Also, if this is correct will an afe torque tube bolt onto your intake?
I am sold that you have one of it not the best filters out there, the only reason I still havent decided between yours and afe's stage 2 is the simple noise level. I really, really want my truck to sound like a jet.

ToyKraz, when you get yours worked out how bout let me know what if any differance the scotty 5 made in the sound of your truck.
Thanks

That front cover helps alot, I have a K&N and when i am cruising about 70 my EGT's are around the 550-700 range with the cover removed. With the cover still on EGT's are about 600-900. If this helps.

Just compairing my Scotty 5 from stock, it makes a nice whistle. Cant compare it to the AFE, as I have never heard one. But I can say I am pleased with the sound I got from the Scotty 5 and the silencer ring removal.

In the installation instructions it should state that the filter may come overoiled from the factory and may require a wipe down or even get cleaned.
That is why I included the cleaning kit with my intakes. At one point I thought I would take the overoiled filters out of their sealed plastic and take care of the issue myself. However, reality hit me and I realized that would leave the filter vulnerable to getting dirty.

As for the instructions for the front cover. I looked at the pile of instructions here and unfortunately you got one of the last that did not have that note attached. There where two more in the stack that did not have that mentioned. My apologies for that. Thanks for the heads up.

I know of a few folks that have used the torque tube. Others have used the Cool Hose as well.

Hope this helps and keep me posted on your results.

Scotty,

Pulled the front cover off this morning and drove to work. With cruise control set at 70 I was getting an EGT reading of about 750. Previous to installing teh Scotty Air I was getting 800. All is well

And would there be a benefit in removing it on a simple BHAF installation?
