Im sorry folks, I know this is a played out question that has be dragged around for ages, but I have decided to purchase a new air intake system for my truck. I have narrowed it down to two decisions. One being the Scotty Ram lll and the other being the Stage 2 AFE kit.
I just wanted to gather some info on each system based on personal experience. Anyone have any experience w/ both? And could you point out any pro's & con's?

Scotty hands down... better filtration, and lower EGT's. If I could have adapted my RA3 to my current set-up, I'd still be using it. Unfortunately, it seems Scotty thinks all us twin-turbo guys should cut big holes in our hoods

Nate, aftermarket intakes are put inplace to reduce exhaust gas temperatures and to give your cummins cleaner air. They arent a real horsepower maker. The hp that you gain is nominal as opposed to what some may tell you. You will get quicker spool up and lower egts. I myself like the scotty system .
I had the scotty and think the AFE is better......for me. It seems my truck breaths better with the AFE system, plus less turbo whine, but enough to know its working. Wife still says the truck sounds like a plane...hahaha
Its really what your after. I love the AFE system and I have had both. I know that I get better air volume through the AFE, and I like the solid construction of all pieces.
I also know that I gained 2-3 mpg and egt went down with the AFE verses scotty.
But remember this is not a scotty bashing, just what I found and like and that works best with my trucks setup.

WOW! Am I glad this topic came up. I was goiong to start one under the exact same heading. I have the air intake choice narrowed to these two, and at the moment am leaning toward the Scotty. The only thing stopping me is the reports I have heard of the Scotty letting some amount of dirt into the engine. Anyone had this filter on long term? How many miles? Any adverse findings to report? Hate to be so picky, but that is the way that I am about this truck, if I am going to put something on it, I want there to be some type of gain. Here I am not looking for HP, of course, looking for better turbo spool, lowering EGTs, and cleaner air. Also looking for some more turbo noise.

Yep, those were my two choices. I just ordered the Scotty, waiting on brown.
Why did I pick the Scotty? Well, listening to the overwhelming responses from owners of one helped. But the kicker is when Mr. Scotty comes here and explains everything to a "T" and he knows our trucks. I only found one recent post of possible dirt getting in, but I think that may be from other circumstances.

Hmm, the decisions seem pretty evenly weighed out. I'll have to sleep on it for a night.
I read a while back that some people were having problems w/ the AFE rubber melting or not holding up to specs, do they have this under control now?

Just remember to get the proper air flow into the scotty you have to pop a hole in your cowl. Dont know if you want to add an air filter system that you have to cut on the truck for it to work right.

On the 03-06 Rams, there is no provision for a hole in the cowl. There is no option to do something like this either. The Scotty intakes for the 03-06 Rams is/are taking air from a forward facing inlet that takes forced air from between the radiator and the passenger headlight as well as the factory fender inlet.
Since this is in the 3rd gen area, its important that people know that there is no cutting required and it takes ten minutes or less to install the intake.

Thanks for the clarifacition Scotty, I don't have a cowl hood (yet) so I won't be cutting anything for now.
Sounds like the install is going to be easy. I installed K&N's new FIPK on my uncles 02 5.9L Magnum yesterday. Holy cow I will not do that again. I had to remount all kinds of stuff, the kit was loose & wobly and took an hour to long. Im glad Diesel air intakes are a little easier to install.

Well, I finally got to installing my Scotty III. That was probably the easiest thing to put in. You do not need to bolt this unit down, it just slides in the stock inlet and just sits there. I was concerned that it would pop out or wiggle loose. I took it down several bumpy roads and it stayed. Sweet, simple and quick install.
