SBC problem!!!

Not to start a SBC hatter thread ,but seems like jmccart and I are having some issues with our clutches. Seems like the sound I have had from day one might be some washer that is supposed to be removed on the clutch fork pivot ball. Where are the **** instructions for that!!! I hope I can leave my clutch this way and not have to worry about that issue causing a major problem.

Please chime in DD guys and give some insight.

Not trying to bash SNC ,don't get me wrong I love my clutch. However if I installed it improperly I want to know. This is one of my pet peeves to install something wrong ,but if you don't have the instructions to tell you other wise how the heck are you suppose to know.

I just installed the 3600 DD in my truck about 4 weeks ago. On the new throw out fork a tag should have been present with the instructions to remove the washer from behind the throw out fork pivot ball. It's not on the written instruction sheet. Also, is the correct end of the throw out fork on the pivot ball? I remember there being instructions about that as well.

yes RDTRCTR there was a sticker saying which end to put on the pivot ball which was really important according to SBC ,so that's what I did but there was nothing that said anything about a washer on the pivot ball. No offense ,but I'm getting pretty mad on this deal!!! How much damage am I causing with the washer still installed?

THe last clutch install I did had a Tag wired on too the pressure that said"Dont forget to remove the washer behind the engagement fork pivot ball". Make sure you talk to Peter, He'll treat you well as long as your honest with him. Bottom line is if you have a sprung hub DD you have to take out the washer wether or not you'll get get something for your trouble or not.

^^^ I agree with this advice. Peter stands behind his products even in installer error, he can get you fixed up. If you may have missed something, he will help you set it straight.

Both of the DD that I have put in said clearly what to do, REMOVE WASHER BEHIND PIVOT BALL IN TRANNY. But I really don't think your causing any real damage, the main thing that it does is give you a little more clearence. Whats happening now is your clutch is not engauging totally and probably bottoming out when you press on the pedal. Not sure if that makes sence?

But talk to Peter, I have never heard him not to be a stand up kind of guy!

Definitely call Peter @ SB on Monday. He totally took care of me when I had trouble w/my hydraulics. I called him about my clutch noise. He did not even mention the washer. I m going to slide my trans/T-case back & take a gander at things. I am not looking forward to it, but after talking to Peter I am confident that everything will work great when I am done.

Dude, I don't have to help. I mentioned the exact same quote in the other 3 threads y'all have been involved in.

At first glimpse of an operating issue, you should have could Peter or Massle (sp?) at SBC, then you should have posted here.

Either way, whether it be DTR members or SBC employees, you'll get help to get it straightened out.

Sorry to hear of this problem. We do however wire a tag to every clutch with a florescent green tag stating to remove the washer behind the pivot ball for clearance reasons. We purposely do not put this info on the paper work as so many toss it to the side. So it is damned if you do or damned if you don't. It only being a clearance thing you can adjust the hydraulics to lesson the travel of the clutch fork provided you get enough travel to release the clutch and start the truck.

How do you adjust the hydraulic clutch?

I installed a SBC clutch in my '03 2 months ago. Ever since I've had trouble getting it into to gear with the engine idling. Feels like the clutch isn't releasing all the way. Shifting while driving seems harder than it should be.

BTW there was no green tag on my clutch. Is removing the washer something that has to be done with every SBC clutch or just certain models?

Hey Clayah, do you have the HD upgrade? The rod length is adjustable between the pedal and the firewall.

If you mean the Hydraulic setup, then know I'm still running the stock setup. Pedal pressure is fine, just feels like its not releasing 100%.
