Buy an adjustable box and just keep to turned down a little. Mine is still a stock 48re and I usually try and wait for OD lock-up before I roll into the power on the highest setting.

I have a Ramifier, but the Quad box looks very nice... Just make sure you get an EGT gauge...

I had the auto first, then changed to 6 speed, but I intend to do a lot of towing. for me the manual just seems like it would better suited from durability/longevity, torque & braking management. just my opinion

Alot more choices? That you can get on a stock truck from the dealer when you buy the truck. what are they and which would be the best for mild bombing.

wolf, you get a choice of the 48re auto or the getrag 6-speed manual, unless you get lucky and find an early 05 with the nv-5600 in it.
the manual would be better for bombing being it is more durable, but the new 48re autos seem to be holding up really well. for a small-mild bomb i think the auto will hold up fine for you but any more than that will need some work done on tranny
