S&b - Wheres The Whistle

Installed the S&B intake and filter but didn't notice hardly any whistle. What gives. I also couldn't figure out how to get the "silencer ring" out, didn't want to pull or tug on it, what am I or did I do wrong.??? There are also 2 white "fins" down in the last turn going into the turbo I guess to help direct the air flow, do the come out or what ???????
Everything else went fine with install pretty straight forward.

To get the silencer ring out, remove the intake and intake tube...in the front of the tube, just before the fan in the turbo, you will see a silver ring with a skinny little ring just forward of it. Take a flat head and pry that little skinny ring out (some vehicles it's a pain, mine was easy going) then pull out the silver, fatter ring...there ya have it, silencer ring removed. Should scream after that. Let me know if you have anymore questions, I just did this myself about a week and a half ago.

Also, make sure that you have everything tightend up really good (i.e. intake tube where it enters the turbo and both of the band clamps around it, and ensure that the filter is pushed onto the other end of the intake tube FULLY and then tightened down with the band clamps really well too.) From what I hear the S&B is pretty much the same setup as the K&N, so it should be whistling pretty decent.

Cool, so there must be like a snap ring in front of the bigger silencer ring then and I must have not seen it. Did yours have the "fins" or vanes down in the tube as it turns into the turbo ??? My silencer ring was marked with a green dot and also a green dot on the turbo housing like a reference point, did yours have that also.?

Dude, there was a very marked difference in my noise level with the S&B, silencer ring still intact.

The S&B is gonna be quiet compared to, say the AEM. It has to do with the material and thickness of the air tube. The metal tubes are much louder.

Isnt the S&B a sealed enclosure? My Brute Force is open and that thing sings. Also, the silencer ring is in the opening of the turbo itself, right before the impeller. One side of the snap ring is flat and the other is angled. All you have to do is slip a flat head screw driver under the angled side of the snap ring and gently pry it up and out of the groove. Mine popped out really easy.

Yeah, mine had both the markers as well. Did ya get that snap ring and silencer ring out yet? I also DID have the vanes leading to the impellar, so all that's normal. Just get the snap and silencer rings out and bolt everything back up good and tight. Should be yellin atcha...you're GONNA wanna drive it. You done or doing an exhaust anytime soon? That will help the breathing and make the whistling louder a bit too

As far as I knew it was an open enclosure like the Brute Force and the K&N...my K&N is pretty loud itself...and the S&B is comparable...should sound good

I could be wrong but I could have sworn the filter sits in a box enclosure with a clear top on it. I could have been looking at one for a different truck though.

You're right man, just looked it up...the S&B that I saw just left the top off of it...my mistake. He had a ram air hood feeding into the top of the S&B box
