Rotella, Amsoil, and Royal Purple. WOW.
I put a bunch of miles on RP 15w40 with an Oilgaurd bypass years ago and I used to compare UOAs on Bobs site and mine was second to none. I firmly believe that every machine is different and if you find something that works good , might as well stay with it. But I stopped using the RP 15w40 cuz it was hard to find in Phx. but now it's easier - I've noticed Checker, Pepboys etc has it now. I've been using Shaeffer 7000 but haven't done UOA yet. I might go back to RP 15w40, yet. I've tried several brands of synchromesh and diff lubes (with UOAs) and I will go FAR out of my way for those RP products. Craig
Well, I'm not gonna argue with you, as I am sure that the original poster did not want this to turn into this. I will tell you that I did talk to Amsoil last week, and if you look at the white paper itself, REGARDLESS of where the test was done, it had to confirm to the ASTM and SAE testing standards, so how are they going to cheat on those tests? Sure, they can word the lube paper to lean toward a certain product, but there are plenty of other companies out there that do it, and the actual numbers are factual on the products. Maybe I'm biased because I've blown up a rear end on RP, and haven't had anything but great luck with Amsoil.
Anyway.. Enough with the arguing, run what ya want

Guys, if you run conventional oil, you can add it to the tank after you change your oil. I love changing my oil, 1 free gallon for my next three fillups!
Rotella, Delo, ValueTech Walmart, it all lubes enough to sustain the mighty cummins!
Even Fram, fall apart filters can sustain the cummins 99% of the time.

I'd feel plenty comfortable running either Amsoil or RP in my engine. Both companies have well deserved reputations for quality products. Marketing might be a different story....
Anyhow, the poster who alluded to the "commodity" element of synthetic oils is pretty much on the money. It's like corn-- corn is corn. Synthetics are synthetics. All the people going blue in the face trading "evidence" of one products superior performance over another are wasting their time.
Besides, we all know that Redline is the best
Or was it Mobil? Or PB Extreme? Gee, I keep forgetting.

I just changed my oil in my rig and put in Rotella synthetic. Any thoughts on this? I have been using the same thing in my wifes Volkswagen Diesel and it seams to work well. Mobil 1, Amsoil, and Royal Purple are considerably more expensive. Is this other stuff that much better?
Man this thread went in the wrong direction. Oh well. Here is what I will do. I will post info that Amsoil and Royal Purple both emailed me. I will post it on Monday. This info talks about thier test and what they found about their own oils under certain conditons and so on. There is pretty neat stuff with both. This thread got carried away, because I mentioned the bad mouthing Amsoil was doing. After recieving both emails from Amsoil and RP, just out of the blue with another email Amsoil sent me, Amsoil started bad mouthing RP. RP didn't say anything at all AT FIRST about Amsoil untill I mentioned what Amsoil said about them. Then, RP started sticking up for themselves. Thats it. Like I said several times. They are all GREAT oils. Everyone here can take a look at the emails and tell me what they think. I was just looking for opinions on what the changes and noticable differences people had using the more popular of the diesel synthetics. Got some good info out of all this though. LOL

Crack me up.
