Ya'll talk like RP and AMsoil are 2 different animals. the fact is, they are both synthetic, they both can endure extended intervals, and they are both expensive.

I ran Amsoil in my boat and spun a bearing in the STBD turbo. Both engines started using oil (600hrs) as well is did my Ford PS (sold it) after switching to Amsoil. I now run Schaffers in my Cummins and RP in my Harley. Both seem to be doing great. Free Amsoil is the only way to go...that way you can sell it and make some profit.

Use what you like, like what you use, but I'll keep using Amsoil.

Your right, to a point, by not being API certified they also don't have to stay in compliance with the ratings. Meaning batch to batch could be whatever the company wants it to be. Meets or exceeds means nothing without standards to back them up.

Your right in the matter their both synthetics. Amsoil group IV, Royal Purple group V, and some other synthetics just a highly refined conventional oil in the group III class but none the less called synthetic. So esentially they are 2 different animals not even related.

I'll stick with my lowly group III Rotella 5-40 synthetic that's API certified. At least I know what group it is all the time and the additives are correct from batch to batch.

Gezz, three posts in a row.

Forgot to mention, If you use the same method for synthetic oil you can also extend drain intervals with conventional oils.

I use amsoil and RP for different applications and like the way that the truck runs.

If I am correct amsoil is a Group IV synthetic as is RP, which are not highly refined conventional oil.

It all boils down to what a person belives and what they want to spend. You will find numerous posts about the good and the bad as well as up and downs of using sythetic or conventional.

I use them and to me it is an investment because that is my personal belief. You will have the people that believe that it is a waste of money but when all is said and done it is that person money and they can spend it as they want.

This is my second diesel and I used rotella exclusively while I owned it and never had a problem but I changed it every 5000 miles at an average of 60.00 per visit if not more. The average was 30,000 miles per year so that is 6 changes per year for an average of 300.00. I change my amsoil two times a year with the same 30,000 miles per year and that change runs 100.00 per change.

Dodge recommend changing axle oil every 15,000 miles so that would be twice a year X 2 for a total of 4 times in two years but I run the amsoil severe duty axle oil for a two year run at a cost of 110.00, which is my belief that is saves time and money.

To each his own.

This is saving as well to me peace of mind.

CALL UP ROYAL PURPLE AND STRAIGHT UP ASK THEM TO SHOW YOU HOW AMSOIL FUDGES ON THEIR TEST AND HOW THEY ARE VERY DIECEIVING. ALSO, THAT LINK ON PAGE ONE, WHERE THE TEST ARE, ROYAL PURPLE WILL EMAIL YOU ALL THE INCORRECTLY WORDED SENTENCES ON THIER AND HOW AMSOIL TRIES TO MAKE EVERYONE ELSE LOOK BAD. I know Amsoil is a GREAT oil, but when they start ripping on other competitors to try and get an edge, that is when I start getting that sour taste. Email RP and find out for YOURSELF. You never hear of RP comming down on their competitors. That is not the kind of buisness they run.

Lets be reasonable here..You say that RP does not rip thier competitors, but then you ALSO say that RP told you themselves that Amsoil fudges on their tests, and that its "worded"very decieving? That sounds an awful lot to me like RP is "ripping" Amsoil's test. My guess is that RP is just upset that someone found out their oil is sub par. Thats just my opinion though. I am not sure what part of "independent" test you don't understand.

I've read a fair amount about oils.See their ads and websites.I read or glance through ALs articles in Amsoil news letters.Very seldom or should I say nothing that comes to mind about any bad mouthing. They ALL say someone leans on those tests at times but nothing terrible.I know the difference in group tiers and why. Some may have a strong point here and their. But the TOP tiers in the correct weights and formulas are all high end products.I like Amsoil delivery & ease of ordering etc.But if for some reason I had a issue Royal Purple and OTHER products would suit me well also I bet.So to each their own as long as comparisons and discussions are apples to apples etc.

I just go off of my experience, I've used RP the life of the truck and I am satisfied. i personally would compare it to Amsoil, but mainly because of price. i don't even read the articles on the websites because it is almost always some sort of propaganda meant to veer the mind off track.

LOL independent company test.

Oh since the API seal is a matter of money why is it they would spend that money on there blends but not there full syn?

I will stick to my sub par API approved and regulated oil rather then the pyrimid style company that would rather not spend the money on the API seal and regulated standards.

Im not saying it isnt good stuff but I like my vedors to be reputable and forth comming and be able to factually back up there claims. I have personnaly been involved in RP testing in the field with my companys equipment and the proof is in the pudding.

You see, I worded my reply wrong. Royal Purple will NOT tell you over the phone that they are BETTER than Amsoil or anyone else for that matter. What they do is EXPLAIN HOW THE ACCUASATIONS FROM AMSOIL ARE INCORRECT and they can prove it. They show you the independent test from the actual companies. These test ARE AT the INDEPENDENT COMPANIES web page. The test results that Amsoil post are different from the test companies site. Once RP tells you how Amsoil is being deceiving, call Amsoil and ask them to explain their reasoning for saying what they said and how they worded it. Amsoils explanation is ???? ah ??? ah. They told me that they DO a lot of in house testing. They then send in their own test for these companies to review. This is straight from the mouth of Amsoil. If you are skeptical, call both companies and talk with them extensively over the phone. You make your decision then.

I just run Rotella and don't worry about it. Thinking about switching to Walmart Supertech to save money.
