Rokktech sensor on 06's

Hi all,

I've been hearing mumblings that the rokktech sensor doesn't seem to help mileage that much if at all in the '06 trucks. I got one used and tried it. According to the overhead display, it HURT mileage by about 1.5 mpg. I put the stock sensor back in, and sure enough, the readout came back up. I don't have a lot of faith in the absolute numbers produced by the display, but I would think it ought to be good enough to see whether something helps or hurts. I wonder if the 06's have a bit more timing stock than the earlier CR motors?

I also tried it on my 06. Sure enough, I found it to not help the milage at all. I also took it off and went back to stock.

Either of you guys still have the Rokktech? I'm interested in trying it on my '05.

Thanks,

Ryan

Run through a few tanks of fuel to get a base line in economy. And hand calculate the numbers, don't rely on the overhead readings. From my experience the Rokktech helps the most below 2k rpms. For slow around town driving I did see a gain but not changes for highway. Also a gain in towing.

A couple of months ago, some folks were talking about production tolerances in the tone ring/sensor area stacking up to give some trucks more timing than others. This was put forth as a possible explanation for why some stock trucks seem to get such better mileage than others. It might also explain why trucks that get good mileage from the start might not respond to advances in timing-those trucks might already have the timing they need, and advancing them might not help or even could hurt.

I notice your truck gets poor mileage compared to many others, and you saw a gain from increased timing. That does seem to fit with what I said above-perhaps your truck is one that had a teeny bit less timing from the factory than others?
