riddle me this.....
riddle me this.....
I removed the silencer ring from the turbo. It really did not change sound or power that I could notice. I was going to put it back in, but didn't get around to it. The strange part is my fuel milage has gone from 14.3 up to 16. I am guessing that it was just an anomoly. I have checked my milage manually against my computer and it is always spot on the money. I guess I will have to check it manually again. Any ideas? I ain't complaining just a curiosity.
Removing the silencer ring...should...
- have no impact on fuel mileage
- have no impact on power
- change the turbo sound a little
And be cautious about putting it back in.
I did and when I barked the Turbo the next time...the Silencer Ring blew out and could have chewed up some Turbo Fins, but luckily I caught it in time.

I would normally have to agree that removing a silencer will not yield any more power. However, I installed a torque tube with the factory air box and yes it did get louder and it also is more responsive. I wasn't expecting the power so its not like I am trying to convince myself its there b/c it definitely has a peppier feel to it.
"Bark my turbo" = surge the compressor. It's a condition where the compressor doesn't have enough flow for the pressure it's putting out and flow actually reverses. It does terrible things to big centrifugal compressors that I run all day, tears up thrust bearings and gearing. Can't be good for our little turbos either.
