Removing trim

Has anyone removed the chrom side molding on the cab of their truck. I have a black crew cab and I love the most all black scheme. When I remove the cummins logo to install the fender flares I had a hard time removing all the adhesive. Is there a trick to this or some kind of safe adhesive remover?

Thanks

2004.5 cummins 3500 crew cab. Black 3 pillar gauge and BHAF. spray on bedliner and leveling kit.

I will be removing my emblems off the tail gate when the new one that says "heavy duty" comes in. I found that taking some fishing line and attacking the emblem from the side in a sawing fashion, will tear away at the adhesive part and not scratch the truck. To get the reidue off, I had no problem with the WD-40. Hope this helps...Jamie

Mine has been debadged. It takes alot of elbow grease.

I too, used wd40. Seems to work as well as anything. Getting the emblems off is easy. The residue just takes alot of work.

I used a plastic scraper and gently lifted the emblems off. Then used my thumbnail to get the biggest part of the glue off. Then worked on the residue with wd40 and a clean rag till it was gone. Then washed it and put on two coats of wax. All done. Several hours later.

I wouldn't try to do it all at once. Take a section and do just that. Then in a week or two do another area on the truck.....my 2 cents.

Pics in my gallery with it debadged.

It'll also breakdown the clear and when you look at it at an angle, you can see the dull spot. I have a friend that tried that approach and seen it first hand. Jamie

Ask a body shop guy about a "body eraser". It is a rubber wheel that goes in a drill. It will remove that adhesive really quick and with no marks or scratches.

Another vote for this method. You can get these at some auto parts stores. It's a 3M Stripe Removal wheel...works really well. I used some WD40 after to clean off the residue. Then I polished and waxed the areas...you'd never know the emblems were there.

I used fishing line to cut my emblems off. Then start rolling the adhesive off with your fingeror use an adhesive eraser. The best thing to clean it up without harming the paint is 3M hand glaze. This is used in almost any body shop.

I'm in the process of doing this right now. You guy's just had to post something to make me work.

I'm using the plastic scraper. I squirt some goo-gone on there first, let it soak just a bit, then it comes right off with the scraper. I got the eraser that you guy's recomended. I can't beleive how easy it make's it. Then just clean up with the goo-gone.

I am noticing one thing though. I can tell where the letter's where, I guess from the paint being faded. Is anyone else expeirancing this. I'm not going to do the whole truck if that's what I'm going to see. Will it eventually fad, or what do you guy's recomend. Thank's.

Polish and wax the area...it will blend in just fine. I had the same thing on mine.

Just got the "heavy Duty" off the tailgate and the other emblems came in. I will post pics up as soon as possible, but this is what I did: I measured up about 6" from the base of the gate and then measured the width of the gate itself and divided it by 9 (# of letters in "heavy duty" with an extra 4 " on each end) I then laid out a stretch of tape that I set up with a level in order to get a "perfect" straight line. Then marked the placement of each letter on the tape and applied. The look I was going for is like on the back of the Infinity G35 where Infinity goes the entire length across the trunk. I have to say it turned out great and will def stand out more. I will be taking the front quarter panel emblems off in a few days as well. Sorry for the book...

Would any of you guys sell the chrome things on the doors (crew cab) or just get rid of them if I paid shipping. Mine are black and I want some chrome ones, I love chrome.

Just a word of caution about the body erasor's. They are molded onto a metal wheel. There is a wear out point on these thing's. Make sure you keep your eye on it. I was able to do my whole truck, but there wasn't much left at all. Do not go too far, or you be doing some painting.
