Question reliability issue with cummins

I am new member and new owner of '06 3500 4WD. All this talk of pump failures scares me, even leaving some people stranded. Another member said he thought it still pertained to 06's. Also a little miffed I may need to spend nearly 700 samolians for a permanent fix on a new 40K truck that has been known to have this problem for years. I understand there is a fix or bandaid for municipal usage but I guess we're not that important,(or important enough to get their price). I used my old 87 6.9 with Banks for 14 years never a breakdown on road. I plan to get isspro guages soon and maybe a mild upgrade (Edge) after warranty expires. Should I just put FSS 2 on it and be done with it or wait till fuel pressure starts to drop and let DC fiddle with it. I am really impressed with the phenomenal base of knowledge here and appreciante any and all responses. I love diesels, as this is my 6th. I have always wanted a Cummins and do love it so please, no advice to buy another ford.

I was stranded between Texas and Michigan once with a small block Chevy when the fuel pump quit, 71 El Camino. I had two fuel pumps go on a 98 Chevy with Vortec 350. At the shop we are replacing bad fuel pumps on many different makes and styles of trucks.
Electric pumps don't seem to last as long as mechanical, which your 87 had.
Point is, any fuel pump can go bad.
At least your 06 don't have a VP-44 injection pump to fail after the transfer pump fails.

If your worried then install a pusher pump and a fuel pressure gauge or just a fuel pressure gauge to monitor things.
I dont think you really have anything to worry about with a stock truck though.
