That's good information. I talked to John about it earlier and he said to run the 62/71-13 and can't go wrong with it. I told him I don't really want a big turbo that my truck won't be able to keep up with. So definitely not that one Or the silver62?
The 62/65-13 sounds like that's what I need. Thank-you guys that is all helpful information y'all are providing, I usually shift 1800-2500 depending on load. Would that be about right for the 62/65?

I have the HTT 62/65/13ss on my truck. I'm glad I got the smaller exhaust wheel. With my stiff T/C auto the 71 wheel would have been hard to spool. If I had the manual with my fueling mods I wouldn't have hesitated to get the 71. With just a Jr, & sticks with towing, & not wanting smoke I think the 62/65/13ss would be perfect for your needs. And if you're like me, it will allow for some growth too. Not that you'll ever want more power tho..

Look into the Garrett BB turbos. I have a stage 2 on mine and it spools quicker than stock and so far cools decent. I can't wait for it to warm up so I can tow our 15k fifth wheel to see how it does then. Just something else for you to look into, but you won't beat the spool of the BB turbos.

Has anybody ever dealt with Treassure Valley performance? I made my decision on the 62/65/13 and called htt so they could find a Tx dealer for me and now the guy tells me that I should get the 64/65/13 he said that it was the best turbo for the CR. He said that the spool is about the same and it flows about 50# more air. So I'm waiting on a call back from TVDiesel bout to get it ordered.

It flows about 5 lbs more air, not 50. It flows roughly ~75lbs/min... I don't have a map in front of me at the moment. It will spool slightly slower... you can't change physics. In any case, it is a good turbo. I like it more for a secondary than as a single personally.

I had a used 64-65-13 on my truck for about 1 week. It spooled ridiculously slow. That was about the time of the wastegate puck issue with them, and I hope that was the issue with the turbo. If it wasn't that is one darn slow spooling turbo. The egts would be as high or higer than stock because it couldn't keep ahead of them before it would spool.

Hey Al just something to add to my Pm response is you may be finding yourself needing to up to a Smarty Sr, especially if you go with the 71 wheel. The 100hp program would be adequate, but more can be had if you know what i mean. Thats why i advised the 65 wheel in my original post according to your mods.

But yea i think you could spin a 71 just fine.

Don't mean to hijack, but i'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I am wondering though, what do you guys think of buying used? Seems to be a lot of good deals on turbos compared to what they cost new. Any big risk compared to most things?

And is the reccomend turbos here good for upgrading? I have a edge juice right now. Planning on 150hp or so injectors, airdog, 5" exhaust, already got intake covered, and eventully plan to upgrade to smarty sr and stack with it a pressure box.

Got the same needs at the OP, mostly daily driving, but I still need to tow 10-12k once in a while. Not sure if it matters, but i'm also running 38" tires on stock 3.73 gears.

Hope I didn't screw up. I pulled the trigger on the 64/65/13 for $1650 to my front door. I'm also going to go ahead and trade off the smarty jr for the Sr. I can't wait.

I'm looking at upgrading my turbo as well, after going back and forth on all of them, reading a TON of posts about all of them, I keep coming back to the 64/65/13 being the turbo to suit my needs/use. I DD about 50%, tow 12K quite frequently, sometimes 18K towing. I will anxiously be awaiting to hear about your results with the new turbo.

Hey Al, keep us all updated on here on how the turbo performs for you. Guess that size should do ok with upgrading to the Sr, jr may have not had enough for it lol. Hope its as quick as you want it! Good luck on the install! Make sure you get all new gaskets on the manifold.

I'd say you made a wise choice. Sounds just like what you need. The 64 will be great with your 6sp, however if it was on an auto the 62 would have been a better choice.

like i said in my last post i have the 64/65/14 with the 6spd and it spools great. i think you made a great choice.

Got the turbo in today. But I just got finished with another truck I bought today, had several problems with a shrunken exhaust manifold. Will be installing the turbo over the wknd this thing looks awesome.
