Rail Pressure Problems

Ok so here is the sinario. My buddy (Silver 002) just got a new HTS tranny so we were breaking it in today and his rail pressure is acting wierd. He has a smarty and an mp8 but really struggles to make 20k even with the MP8 set to kill. We check the mp8 on my pickup and it works great so its not the mp8. Its almost like the cp3 never quite catches up. When the tranny shifts into 4th RP drops to 12k. Thats with or without the mp8, smarty, and stock pump. We loaded beta 4.3 to see if it might be something in the ecm, but we get the same thing. He should see around 23k with just the 4.3 right? Anyone have any ideas.

Right now im thinking his cp3 is weak, but it has under 60,000 miles on it (I think).

My stock cp3 will only drop to maybe 14,000 with everything I have sounds like he might have something wrong. I would look at the little stuff first as stated above.

Lift pump is a walbro and holds 17+ psi all the time and he is running a Glacier twin filter setup. We hooked my x2 up with the first then the Diprocol to it and the read the same. So I dont think its the gauge.

Yep, it didnt leak a bit. We were planning on ordering two sets of fluxs Monday, but if we cant get this figured out it may only be one set Monday.

A few things come to mind here in the following order of importance:

1) Rail relief valve bypassing too much fuel

2) FCA

3) High return rates on the injectors. Leaking seats.

I know the mileage on the truck is low at 60K, but I have seen high rates on injectors with 7000 miles ) -: Pathetic I know

Should we cap the rail first then? I know he was thinking of ordering some fluxs soon. That would take care of the injector problem. That just leaves the fca. Are they the same for all years? If so i could swap mine in there for his.

Sounds like 2 or 3 injectors have high fuel return. Like Don I also have seen lots and lots of trucks with less then 60k with bad injectors.

fca's are all the same but some yalears do act different on different trucks. I'd swap em and try it. The cap is a good idea but that's something else you could swap from your truck to his. The injector are most likely the cause I'm guessing. Especially if he's been playin with some preassure he could be getting alot of blow by like don said. Most diesel shops have the capability to do an injector flow test. You might try that first.

The gauge has to be plugged in first in order to work correctly.

I plugged the quad in first to see if we got the same readings with the x2 gauge. The quad read just the same as the diprocol when it was plugged in first.
