Questions on Trac Bars

I'm in the process of biulding a set of trac bars which is the easy part but I dont know how to set them up. When I install them do I want the bracket to be set so that the bar is at it's shortest length or longest length or somewhere in the middle?

You want the strongest way, which would be with maybe 1.5-2.5'' of threads out on each end. This way you can pre-load if needed, whatever your truck likes/needs.

How big did you go with the tubes and heim joints?? I'm going to be making my own also. I have 2'' then sliding in 1.5'' and 1.25''. I'm probably going over kill but I don't want to bend them. I'm using heim joints from suicidedoors that have poly. bushings., comes in a kit form for $60/side.

you could alwyas fab them up and then have a wleder weld them up. Welding usualy isnt the expensive part its the fabrication. I bet youcould get the welding done for around 40 bucks

Go on the search, type in 'traction bars', 'then ladder bars'. I saw plenty of examples and where to get the joints. Here's a couple; ballisticfabrication or suicidedoors...........

Try looking at lazarsmith also. You can buy 'em already to go in...I've heard the ones who have 'em really like 'em.........I can't afford them when I can make them myself, they are really nice from what I see on the sites..........

I'm using 2", 1/4 wall DOM tubing that was cut to 6' sections. I got my joints from http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/

http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/...ud_p_1506.html
Got everything I needed from them other than the tubing(got that from alro).

I considered getting the tubing and having the ends onf the tubing threaded so I wouldn't have to weld in the tube adapters. Then you could get ahold of lazarsmith and buy the brackets for the frame.
